- Salary progression beyond point 11 of the Lecturer scale is subject to achieving and maintaining QTLS or QTS. Progression beyond point 14 requires Advanced Teacher Status (ATS).
Job role
We are seeking an enthusiastic and industry‑focused Lecturer in Games Design to join our Creative & Digital teaching team at Middlesbrough College. This role involves delivering high‑quality, industry‑relevant teaching that prepares learners for progression into employment, higher education or further training within the Games and Creative Digital Industries. You will plan, deliver and assess engaging and inclusive learning experiences that develop students’ creative, technical and professional skills in line with current industry practice. You will also contribute to curriculum development, quality assurance and learner progression, while upholding the College’s values and safeguarding responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver a programme of study that meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of students.
- Create a positive and inclusive learning environment that supports learner engagement, creativity and achievement.
- Deliver high‑quality teaching using a range of appropriate methods, resources and industry‑standard software aligned to games design, animation and development.
- Plan and deliver assessment programmes, ensuring marked work meets Middlesbrough College standards.
- Use diagnostic assessment to identify learner strengths and needs and adapt teaching accordingly.
- Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date student records, registers and tracking documentation.
- Participate in internal and external quality assurance processes, including Awarding Body requirements and inspections.
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
- Relevant degree‑level qualification in Games Design or a related discipline.
- Qualified teacher or willingness to commence a recognised teaching qualification on appointment.
- Knowledge and/or experience of current and emerging trends in the Games, Animation and VFX industries.
- Experience and/or knowledge of games design, games programming and animation.
- Experience using industry‑standard software such as Unreal Engine (UE4) and Unity.
- Strong communication, organisational and time‑management skills.
- Ability to prepare effective written and visual teaching materials, making good use of digital technologies and virtual learning environments.
