Our Organisation
Nelson and Colne College Group is a beacon for educational excellence, made up of a family of colleges – Nelson & Colne College, Accrington & Rossendale College and Lancashire Adult Learning. The College Group is the only Further Education college in Lancashire to be graded as ‘Outstanding’ under the new Ofsted inspection framework.
Together the Group forms a Sixth Form, Skills and Technology Centre, University Centre, employer training and adult learning provider delivering exceptional teaching and learning to all ages and at all levels.
The Exciting Role
An exciting opportunity has become available for a Head of Division to join our college to lead and manage a high performing, large division of maths and English. The college has a national reputation for it’s English and Maths results and it is a key part of the college’s strategic intent: “we are a big fat maths and English college”. The division delivers the following qualifications:
· GCSE maths (EDUQAS)
· GCSE English (AQA)
· Functional skills maths (Pearson)
· Functional skills English (City & Guilds)
The English and Maths division embraces a culture of high expectations and adopts the approach of ‘pushing with love’ to support students in realising their full potential. The recent OFSTED visit carried out deep dives into GCSE within this division and concluded that they were outstanding across the board.
The Head of Division role is supported by a team of experienced and knowledgeable Curriculum Leaders.
The successful candidate will need to split their time between Nelson and Accrington sites.
What You Will Be Doing:
· Lead a highly ambitious curriculum offer for all learners across the spectrum of course offerings within the division and to continually review curriculum intent to ensure a highly relevant offer and learner experience
· Lead a high performing team to continue to commit to, develop and deliver a rich and relevant curriculum that is individually tailored to meet learners’ needs and that leads them to successful outcomes and their intended destinations, including a pastoral curriculum that meets the personal development needs of all learners
· Establish strong working relationships with partner organisations, e.g. the local Maths network, in order to continually evaluate and improve upon the learning experiences of students and ensure their success.
· Using systems to monitor student progress, understand predicted outcomes.
· Ensure that appropriate and impactful interventions are in place to support learners to achieve.
· Play an integral role within the College Leadership Team, working closely with other heads of division and leaders of support areas, including careers, MIS, safeguarding and exams.
What We Are Looking For:
· Hold a degree in a relevant subject and a recognised teaching qualification (a higher degree or management qualification is desirable).
· Successful teaching experience in either Maths or English with knowledge of and proven ability to deliver the curriculum successfully.
· Possess excellent communication skills, display initiative, be positive and enthusiastic.
· Be a team player and evidence successful staff management and the ability to motivate others.
· Develop new curriculum models that deliver outstanding outcomes and are cost effective.
· Experience of leadership/management in an educational setting.
