We are looking for people like you to be a Learning and Skills Tutor

York Learning’s Family Learning team is looking for enthusiastic and creative tutors with knowledge of early years and/or the primary curriculum. You will join us in exciting projects to develop parents and carers’ confidence and skills in supporting children’s speech and language development using a wide variety of activities and strategies that can be used both in and out of the home. Our adult learners are encouraged to share and adapt ideas to suit individual children’s needs.
We also work to identify and develop adults’ own skills gaps particularly in English and maths, and some knowledge of adult skills qualifications in these subjects would be an advantage in order to support adult learner progression routes towards their own qualifications and career aspirations.
You will work up to two days a week, linked to one or two primary schools or early years settings. Your aim will be to engage with parents and set up workshops and short courses relevant to their needs and agreed priorities of the school. Flexible availability to include some start and end of school day activities and the occasional weekend or evening work will be necessary to carry out this post successfully. Please note this is a part time tutor role and the salary will be a pro rata of that advertised depending on hours agreed.

As this role is public facing, applicants will need to demonstrate, at interview, their competency to converse and provide advice and guidance to members of the public, in spoken English to CEFR level C1: Can express him/herself fluently and spontaneously, almost effortlessly. Only a conceptually difficult subject can hinder a natural, smooth flow of language.
Hybrid working arrangements are available for this role. Each role at CYC is different and your working arrangements will be determined based on the requirements of the role and in collaboration with you and your needs as part of the recruitment process. Your contractual location will be the designated council office for your team.
