The opportunity
At Leonardo, we have a fantastic new opportunity for a Lead Learning and Development Officer to join our team within the Customer Support and Service Solutions (CS3) line of business. CS3 operates across the UK, providing innovative and invaluable support solutions to our customers. We help to ensure the availability of front-line capability wherever and whenever required.
This role will be part of the Major Campaigns team – developing solutions for the next-generation of support and training services, to meet the needs of a variety of customers around the world primarily in the Land and Air domains. You will have the opportunity to be part of the scoping, shaping and delivery of training solutions for our customers both across the business-winning phase and in support of contract execution. You will be responsible for working with customers and stakeholders to understand their needs, developing these to feed into an overall training and development strategy and using them to create training proposals. You will also deliver and evaluate training, identifying areas for improvement and innovation, as well as ensuring that accreditation is obtained and maintained. You will play a key role in creating optimal training solutions for the customer, user and business, applying a Systems Approach to Training whilst taking into account compliance and governance.
We are looking for someone who can apply their training expertise to complex large-scale programs and who is good at drawing out and understanding stakeholder needs. You will work closely with the internal Leonardo teams and with external suppliers and customers, giving you the opportunity to influence the holistic solution.
What you’ll do as a Lead Learning and Development Officer
- Own the delivery of specific work packages within the training and development programmes, including monitoring and reporting on progress and demonstrating performance against KPIs and objectives.
- Develop and disseminate professional standards within the training environment and make recommendations for improvement of existing policies or processes.
- Provide technical input into the lifecycle management of the training solutions and their associated design review processes.
- Assess learning and development needs, across both trainees and instructors/trainers.
- Devise individual learning plans, and support their implementation (including through AET courses as required).
- Plan, prepare and deliver training/education to all audience levels, including assessment to ensure assimilation.
- Evaluate the training and development programmes, updating and amending where required to incorporate continuous improvement and to adapt to changing environments.
- Support all accreditation activity with respect to External Educational Agencies (Colleges and Universities)
- Ensure compliance with all statutory and mandatory training and monitor regulatory requirements to ensure that all changes are reflected in the programme.
- Support the recruitment and development of the training team required to meet the needs of the business and the customer(s).
- Safeguard and promote the welfare of all personnel within the training environment and ensure that the Supervisory Care Directive is adhered to.
- Mentor/coach the instructors/trainers and support the growth of training knowledge and expertise across the organisation.
- Promote a culture of best practice and knowledge sharing, where new ideas are valued, to help enhance our training offering and effectiveness.
- Foster relationships and networks within and outside CS3 to maintain an up-to-date knowledge of industry trends and developments and actively identify opportunities for adoption of best practice.
We would like to hear from you if you have a combination of the following
- Proven experience of leadership of training and development programmes, driving technical delivery alongside team management, compliance and continuous improvement to create a high-performing team environment
- Knowledge and experience of applying DSAT and JSP 822.
- A working knowledge and understanding of the NATO Bi-SC Directives for Individual and Collective training
- Demonstrated ability to work across the lifecycle of the analysis, design and evaluation of training solutions in terms of both the trainee and trainer.
- Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders from a wide range of organisations, disciplines, backgrounds and levels of seniority.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with experience of delivery to a variety of audiences.
- Proven facilitation and stakeholder management skills.
- Self-motivated with an aptitude for problem solving and driving difficult issues to conclusion.
- Experience of working on projects related to defence-based Land and/or Air training environment.
- Recognised training qualifications such as
- Qualified to CIPD Level 5 and/or equivalent qualification or experience in learning and development
- Recognised teaching qualification such as AET Level 5 or PGCE
- TAQA Assessor Level 3 Qualification
- Qualified Care of Trainees Facilitator
- Training Manager course or a recognised higher or equivalent
- Train the Trainer (TTT) course (Level 4 NVQ) or a recognised higher or equivalent qualification/course.
- Internal Validation course (Level 4 NVQ) or a recognised higher or equivalent qualification/course.
- External Validation course (Level 4 NVQ) or a recognised higher or equivalent qualification/course.
- Quality Assurance course (Level 4 NVQ) or a recognised higher or equivalent qualification/course.
