Two Intelligence Development Officers (IDO) are required for PERMANENT roles paying £32,757.33 per annum with the British Transport Police (BTP) based at Manchester and Liverpool.
BTP is the national police Force for the rail network throughout Great Britain, including London Underground, across which we ensure the safety and security of nearly 3 billion passenger journeys and over 100 million tons of freight every year. The world in which we work is fast-paced, operationally and commercially demanding, and constantly changing. As an Intelligence Development Officer with BTP you will gather, evaluate, appropriately disseminate and develop information and intelligence to inform and support both overt and covert policing activity up to NIM level 3 ensuring the appropriate management of risk and threat factors. Operating alone or with others to form the operational arm of the intelligence function, carrying out field-based activity to enhance the intelligence picture, for both covert and overt operational activity.
As Intelligence Development Officer you will be required to:
- Development of information and identification of intelligence gaps to produce actionable intelligence reports for dissemination.
- Undertake intelligence enquiries utilising approved operational tactics in line with current legislation, stated cases and guidelines such as RIPA, ECHR, R v Johnson with a view to developing intelligence in support of operations and investigating officers.
- Support investigations in overt deployment to capture intelligence opportunities such as House Searches, Prison Intelligence Interviews, Intelligence interviews within police stations, observations or in conjunction with the Force Surveillance team to identify and maximise live time intelligence opportunities and assist in proactive investigations.
- Prepare intelligence packages to a high standard and deliver briefings to a variety of audiences in support of operations/investigations.
- Contribute to pro-active policing operations, directly supplementing the activities of CID, MSOC, SIU, County Lines Task Force teams and other internal/external depts/teams.

- Self-motivated and can work with minimum supervision or as part of a team.
- Communicates in a clear and concise manner, with the ability to present to large groups of people, (can range from 5 to 45) depending on the operation).
- Good written communication skills, with the ability to prepare operational briefings to a high standard.
- Effective problem-solving skills and an inquisitive mind.
- The ability to prioritise workloads, work under pressure and use their initiative.
- Computer literate with good IT skills. IT skills including Microsoft Office programs and other databases and systems
- Excellent planning, organising and problem-solving skills
- Flexible in approach to the requirements of working hours considering Force Intelligence Bureau services live operations, incidents and serious/series investigations
- A proven track record in intelligence development and/or Criminal investigations
