Force Trainer – Crime Training Team
Fixed term contract – 2 years with potential to extend.
Based at Devizes with some online delivery
Part Time W8 3 Days per week 8 x 4 Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
Applications are invited for the role of Force Trainer within the Wiltshire Police Learning and Development Department Crime Training team.

You must be PIP2 qualified
Working in a team of officer and police staff trainers you will plan, design and deliver training to police officers, volunteers, and police staff. The role will enable you to positively impact the learning and development journeys of new to service police staff, officers and volunteers along with the development of existing staff through the provision of innovative and effective training.
Your focus will be to deliver a range of investigative courses on-line and face to face. You will also be involved in CPD and assessment to support accreditation for Investigators and PIP 2 Specialists.
With the team you’ll be working to provide the best learning experience and quality training so that our staff and officers are equipped to the highest standard so that they can, in turn, provide the best level of service to our communities.

Our training is delivered using a blended approach using face to face and on-line methods. The successful candidate will receive training in online learning facilitation and specific IT systems used if not already experienced. You will work with the Crime Investigation Training Team to plan, design and deliver training to investigators both police officers and staff and at advanced level you will work with those who investigate the most serious offences. You will be working on PIP 1 and PIP 2 learning programmes and with assessment for accreditation. You may also be asked to deliver on other courses and training programmes.
Working hours will be between the times of 8am to 4pm covering three days per week. Your base will be at Devizes – Wiltshire Police HQ, some training is delivered on-line, with a requirement to deliver training face to face at locations across the force e.g. Swindon, Melksham and other sites within the Police estate and at times at weekends and evenings and there is an expectation for you to be flexible in regard to this. Therefore, the post holder should have access to a vehicle or be able to make alternative arrangements to meet the requirements of the post.
Previous experience in a professional training environment and qualifications at Level 3 or 4 in a relevant training or teaching subject area and or hold a Police related professional qualification with proven previous policing experience is essential.
The successful candidate for this role, if not already the holder of a level 5/6 education qualification, will be expected to successfully complete the Professional Graduate Certificate in Post Compulsory Education and Training (PcET) course starting the qualification within the first year of being in post or when courses permit.
Main Responsibilities
- To plan, design, develop, and deliver programmes of initial and refresher training for all members of Wiltshire Police and the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner for Wiltshire, in order to meet organisational demand.
- Supervise and develop learners through face to face, classroom, virtual and hybrid delivery.
- To ensure a safe working environment for learners and that training activities have been risk assessed and are regularly reviewed.
- To hold tutorials with learners to discuss their individual progress and where necessary, to guide them to enhance their rate of development to promote a learning organisation.
- Coaching, mentoring and tutoring learners that have performance or confidence issues, including those that have been away from core duties for a period of time, or require development for any other reason.
- To complete associated administrative/clerical reports.
- To support and manage learning and assessment activities to ensure progress of learners and liaise with other key stakeholders (internally and externally) to support learners in achieving their academic goals and competence against National Occupational Standards.
- Preparation, testing, input and training of force and police specific ICT software systems.
- Assist in the development, research and evaluation of delivery through blended learning.
- Maintain up to date knowledge of relevant legislation and procedures.
- Represent the L&D Department with internal and external clients.
- Support, assist and collaborate with colleagues within Learning and Development as and when required.
