About the roles:
These joint clinical academic appointments offer an exciting opportunity to make a substantial contribution to both teaching, scholarship and academic leadership at Queen’s University Belfast (QUB) and specialist clinical service delivery in paediatric dentistry with the Belfast Health and Social Care Trust (BHSCT). The postholders will strengthen the clinical academic base of paediatric dentistry within the Centre for Dentistry, while providing high-quality, patient-centred specialist care.
The successful candidates will support and enhance the delivery of high-quality dental education, contributing to the planning, assessment and continuous improvement of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, and assuming leadership responsibility for defined areas of the curriculum.
They will contribute to educational leadership, student support, and curriculum development, while actively engaging in scholarly activity related to dental education and/or clinical practice. In parallel, the postholders will contribute to the delivery and development of specialist paediatric dental services within BHSCT, supporting service innovation, clinical excellence, and multidisciplinary working.
Two posts are available:
- Post 1 will be appointed at Consultant level.
- Post 2 will be appointed at Consultant or Specialist level, depending on the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.
About the People:
To be eligible for appointment at Consultant level, candidates must have successfully completed an SAC-approved minimum 2-year training programme in a Fixed Term Training Appointment (FTTA) in Paediatric Dentistry, or a minimum of 2 years full-time (or part-time equivalent) relevant additional training after Membership in Paediatric Dentistry for other EEA nationals. This is required to demonstrate the additional competencies required for appointment at Consultant level.
For both posts, appointment may be made at Lecturer or Senior Lecturer academic grade. Please refer to the relevant candidate information document for the full criteria applicable to each post, and indicate clearly in your application which academic grade you are applying for.
The essential qualification requirements are:
- Full registration with the United Kingdom General Dental Council (GDC) or eligible for inclusion.
- MPaedDent or equivalent
- For consultant or specialist level appointment- on the GDC Specialist List in Paediatric Dentistry before commencement of post. Applicants who are nationals from another EEA country, or overseas, would have to demonstrate equivalent training/ qualifications and be eligible for registration and inclusion on the United Kingdom General Dental Council’s specialist list in Paediatric Dentistry.
- For appointment at consultant level - successful completion of a Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (CCST) in Paediatric Dentistry, including a SAC approved minimum two year training programme, or a minimum of two years’ full time (or part time equivalent) relevant additional training after Membership in Paediatric Dentistry for other EEA nationals. This is required to demonstrate the additional competencies required for appointment at consultant level
- At Lecturer level, if a higher degree is not already held, commitment to undertaking a funded MSc in Clinical Education during the probationary period is required.

Consultant: £110,681 - £145,517 per annum. Specialist: £100,870 - £111,442 per annum
