Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic SEND Specialist Tutor who will lead and coordinate high-quality SEND provision for apprentices and adult learners aged 16+, ensuring learners with additional needs are identified early, supported effectively, and enabled to achieve ambitious outcomes.
The role combines specialist SEND leadership with the delivery of support plans, ensuring teaching is inclusive, adaptive, and aligned to our curriculum intent and Ofsted expectations.
Duties
- Lead on the identification and assessment of SEND at initial assessment, induction, and throughout the learner journey
- Design, implement, and review Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) and support strategies that enable learners to make sustained progress
- Ensure high expectations for learners with SEND, supporting achievement, progression, and successful completion of apprenticeships or adult learning programmes
- Provide targeted interventions and support for learners with learning difficulties, disabilities, neurodiversity, mental health needs, or EHCPs
- Monitor the impact of SEND support, using learner progress, achievement data, and feedback to inform improvement
- Supporting tutors:
- Deliver high-quality vocational and functional skills content to apprentices and adult learners, including SEND learners
- Plan and teach engaging, differentiated sessions aligned to curriculum intent and learner starting points
- Use adaptive teaching strategies to remove barriers and support learners to achieve timely
- Track progress, set challenging targets, and implement interventions where learners fall behind
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Proven experience supporting SEND learners aged 16+ within apprenticeships or adult education
- Strong understanding of Ofsted EIF and inspection toolkit expectations, particularly around inclusion and outcomes
- Ability to assess learner starting points and implement targeted, effective interventions
- Excellent communication skills with learners, employers, and staff
- Experience using learner progress data to inform support and improvement
- Teaching or training qualification (e.g. AET, PTLLS, DET, PGCE or equivalent)
- Functional Skills Maths and English at Level 2 or above (or equivalent)
- Relevant SEND qualification
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
- Experience working with EHCPs in FE or apprenticeship settings
- Assessor qualification (TAQA, CAVA, A1)
- Experience supporting Ofsted inspections
- Designated safeguarding lead qualification
