The Opportunity:
Arden University is growing and as part of that growth we are expanding the Computing team. This is an exciting opportunity to join at a time when we are creating programmes to meet the needs of employers and the graduates of the future. You’ll join a team of academics distributed across our UK study centres but working collectively to create the best experience for our students.
Core duties and responsibilities:
- Co-ordinate and line manage academic teams, take the lead in administering and developing academic programmes, lead on module development and enhancement (including accreditation) and work with internal and external stakeholders to identify opportunities for portfolio development.
- Teaching and training activities (both face to face and online).
- Module leadership, ensuring levels of consistency and quality and developing our learning materials and schemes of work.
- Assessment marking and development, developing authentic assessments, ensuring appropriate marking guidance is provided and maintaining levels of quality in terms of feedback and evaluation processes
- Lead on or assist with the development of new programmes and the review and refresh of our existing programmes, ensuring alignment with employer requirements and the employability needs of our students
- Working with colleagues to advise and support students.
- Innovate in terms of teaching practice, support, and assessment
About You:
You will be an excellent communicator who can explain Computing concepts to a variety of audiences and inspire our students as they engage with our courses and modules. Our undergraduate and postgraduate Computing programmes cover topics such as Programming, Databases, Data Analysis, IT Security, Cloud Infrastructure, IT Project Management, Systems Analysis and Ethics in IT. As such, you will need to demonstrate an ability to deliver excellent and engaging teaching across a range of theory-based and practical modules and be comfortable with languages and platforms such as Java, MySQL, PHP, AWS/Azure, Python and SPSS across levels 4 to 7. Ideally, you will have developed these skills in an industry context and can bring this experience to the classroom so that our students can engage in learning that is authentic and work focused.
You will be confident in using a variety of techniques that align with Arden’s focus on active learning, in both face-to-face teaching at our study centres and online teaching platforms such as Zoom. As a module leader, you will ensure that modules are delivered consistently and to our University standards. You will be confident in leading and managing academic teams, ensuring standards of quality across teaching and assessment. You will also be comfortable supervising final year projects and supporting students applying their academic and technical skills to solve real world problems.

The Faculty of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics
Each and every one of us has the power to change the World: to save the planet, to provide clean water and nutritious food to all, to end poverty and build a global inclusive culture. Whether people are looking to change the World or simply make life a little better for their family and friends, a STEM qualification will equip them with the tools, techniques and mindset to start to tackle these challenges. Industries around the World are looking for talented STEM graduates to develop the technologies of the future whilst at the same time ensure that these are sustainable and have a positive impact on our environment.
It is an incredibly exciting time to be joining Arden University, at the creation of its new STEM Faculty. Within this faculty the School of Computing offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes that are designed with flexibility in mind. We know that our learners are already busy people, so Arden’s teaching and learning model enables them to engage with our courses and degree programmes via distance learning or via a combination of online delivery and face-to-face delivery at a learning centre near them. This delivery model enables our learners to balance their personal commitments with their professional aspirations.
Research
As a member of the Faculty of STEM, you are joining a community of practice and are expected to engage with research in your specialist discipline and / or relevant pedagogical research. This research informs your teaching and ensures that you remain connected with the wider academic community. Our existing academics research interests cover areas such as data science, cybersecurity and technology enhanced learning and we’re keen to support our academic colleagues in maintaining their research profile.
Training and Development
Our people are our most valuable assets. You will be mentored and line-managed by a more senior colleague from within your School and we will offer you opportunities to develop and maintain your skills
The Role
Working at Arden University, you will also be able to carry out teaching delivery at a designated learning centre and benefit from flexible working opportunities; this enables us to recruit the best that the UK has to offer.
If you are hard-working and excited to contribute to the development of our new Faculty of STEM, we want to hear from you!
