The Post
The Henley College is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Curriculum Leader to join growing leadership team. The post holder will be required to provide effective leadership and management and thereby build and maintain an effective teaching team which continually enhances the quality of learning and achievement. This post will be responsible for the curriculum areas of Math's and Science.
Key Responsibilities
· To manage an identified curriculum area, providing innovation and best practice in teaching, learning and assessment and ensuring that strategies conform to the requirements of the subject/course awarding body.
· To ensure that the quality of the delivery is of the highest standard by implementing college quality processes and embedding effective quality assurance/quality improvement arrangements in the area of responsibility.
· To monitor the progress of students on Education, Health and Care Plans, as well as organise the required reviews for such students, including liaison with external agencies.
· To monitor attendance and punctuality, ensuring that guidelines are followed and that students conduct and manage their own feelings and behaviour in lessons. To liaise with professional tutors and Assistant principals as relevant.
· To take a lead in innovation in curriculum design in the curriculum area to ensure outstanding outcomes and to meet aspirations of students.
· To ensure that subject and course teams work together effectively in the delivery of the subjects and courses.
· To set, implement and monitor objectives within the self-assessment and planning processes in consultation with the Assistant principals and to ensure effective implementation of action plans.
· To ensure that college procedures for the monitoring, review and evaluation of the Curriculum Area are implemented by staff where appropriate.
· To inspire student progression, ensuring that students are well informed about career options relating to curriculum area subjects and courses.
· To provide effective monitoring of the curriculum area to ensure that college values, employability skills and British values are embedded in curriculum sessions.
· To work with Senior Tutors and Assistant principals on student related issues and to ensure that all students develop employability skills and have effective work experience.
· To ensure that there is an active strategy enabling external employers and agencies to contribute to Curriculum Areas.
· To organise and assist with cover for absent staff, including set work for students.
· To assist the Assistant principals with the appointment of full and part time staff.
· To assist the Assistant principals with drafting staff timetables in line with employee conditions of service guidelines.
· To assist the Assistant principals in quality review processes, by carrying out:
o Formal lesson observations
o Regular informal observations
o Reviews of marked work
o Management of benchmarking and peer review processes
· To implement the college appraisal system and, specifically, ensure the effective performance management of staff and setting and monitoring targets in the area. To carry out staff appraisals and to identify, plan and implement staff development needs for staff in their teaching roles.
· To ensure the induction, probation and mentor support for new staff and carry out reviews as relevant.
· To hold regular minuted team meetings in accordance with the College calendar.
· To produce submissions/revalidations to the appropriate awarding bodies and act as the contact between the College and the External Verifier as required.
· To ensure effective Internal Verification across all subjects in the curriculum area according to all assessment body guidance.
· To organise internal examinations and assist with external examinations in liaison with the College Examinations Officer. To ensure that appropriate submissions are made to the relevant awarding bodies for the subjects and courses in the curriculum area.
· To take a lead in the preparation and implementation of marketing events to promote subjects in the curriculum area and recruit students.
· To assist the admissions team with interviews for applicants and ensure that recruitment, registration and assessment entry requirements are carried out to approved guidelines, as well as visiting current settings and organising trial visits to the college to support a structured transition process.
· To manage the curriculum area’s budget and resources to meet the needs of the curriculum area and to ensure that the curriculum area achieves the contribution level set by SLT.
· To ensure that registers are accurately recorded and maintained.
· To work with the Faculty Administrators to make amendments on the College Databases to adjust teaching groups.
· To provide statistical information as and when required.
General Responsibilities
· Comply with any rules and regulations which the College may from time to time issue, to ensure the efficient operation of its business and the welfare and interest of its employees and learners.
· Work flexibly and efficiently to maintain the highest professional standards and to promote and implement the policies of the College.
· To ensure adherence to all College policies and procedures including Staff Code of Conduct Safeguarding, Keeping Children Safe in Education and IT Policy and procedures.
· To work to the College quality standards and systems within the context of the College quality systems.
· To ensure continuous professional development (CPD) requirements as specified by the College and that may be identified during college processes, for example Developmental reviews.
· To undertake such other duties and responsibilities as are appropriate to this level of post.
Essential Criteria
· Degree or equivalent relevant professional qualification
· A full teaching qualification
· Extensive professional experience of working with employers either in Math’s and Science
· Evidence of continuous professional development
· Evidence of outstanding practice in teaching, learning and assessment
· Experience of developing and implementing new initiatives to support the teaching and learning process which lead to improved learner outcomes
· Experience of curriculum planning and designing new programmes.
· Experience of successful leadership of teams/individuals to achieve objectives and improve performance.
· Experience of planning and evaluating services and achievement of successful outcomes.
Desirable Criteria
· Experience of managing financial and physical resources.
· Experience of managing change and continuous improvement.
· Experience of managing quality in the delivery of services.
Knowledge
· Knowledge of the curriculum framework relevant to the College’s course offer
· An understanding of the role of Math’s and/or Science in course delivery
· Knowledge of post 16 education and, in particular, policy developments which will impact upon education and training
· A good understanding of funding regulations relevant to curriculum delivery.
