Job Title: Academic Intervention Lead (Functional Skills, English Specialist)
Salary: Commencing at £31,916 with progression to £35,912 per annum
About the Role
What You Will Do
- Take overall responsibility for the planning, delivery, and quality assurance of Entry Level Functional Skills English.
- Design and deliver targeted academic interventions across all departmental programmes, supporting students with Maths, vocational studies, and RARPA targets.
- Carry out robust initial and diagnostic assessments to pinpoint exactly why a student is struggling academically, creating bespoke SMART action plans to get them back on track.
- Monitor and record student growth across all interventions, writing professional, robust progress reports that directly inform statutory EHCP annual reviews.
- Undertake internal verification, standardisation, and course review processes to ensure full compliance with college quality frameworks and exam board specifications.
About You
- You hold a recognised UK teaching qualification at Level 5 or above, such as a PGCE or Cert Ed, alongside Level 2 qualifications in English and Maths.
- You have a proven track record of successfully teaching Functional Skills English within further education or a specialist SEND setting, alongside the ability to support broader subjects like Maths and Vocational modules.
- You possess a strong working knowledge of the UK SEND Code of Practice, EHCP statutory outcomes, and the practical application of the RARPA framework for non-accredited growth.
- You can pivot your teaching styles responsively to meet the diverse communication, neurodivergent, and behavioural needs of high-needs learners in real time.
- You bring high levels of emotional intelligence, patience, and a calm demeanour under pressure, backed by the excellent communication skills needed to work with parents, tutors, and multi-agency specialists.
