We are looking for a committed and skilled educator who is passionate about innovation, creativity and driving meaningful change in the fashion and textiles industries to join us at University of the Arts London (UAL).
Based in the School of Pre Degree Studies, you will deliver the Fashion and Textiles curriculum on the UAL Level 3 Foundation Diploma in Art and Design, providing innovative and creative learning experiences for our students. You will contribute to the Core Skills lecture series, as well as workshops and tutorials that encourage experimentation and exploration in Fashion and Textiles. The Diploma serves as a vital transition from general education into specialist art and design study, supporting learners in developing critical independence and the ability to meet the standards required for progression into higher education.
During Units 2 and 3 of the course, you will lead a cohort of Fashion and Textiles students, supporting their development through curriculum delivery and individual guidance. A key aspect of the role involves helping students build strong portfolios and preparing them for applications to BA programmes.
Working as part of a collaborative course team, you will utilise your specialist expertise to shape and develop pedagogy and the curriculum in innovative and critical directions, challenging the canon of Fashion and Textiles, with a strong emphasis on promoting diversity and inclusion.
You will need previous experience of fashion design practice within the industry. Along with previous experience of delivering high quality learning within Further and/or Higher Education, you will bring previous experience of designing and delivering projects, workshops, teaching materials, lesson plans, presentations, briefs and lectures.
Strong communication skills are essential, along with the confidence to work with large and diverse student cohorts. A central aspect of your role involves understanding and responding to students’ varied ambitions and abilities. Therefore, you will demonstrate the ability to design and deliver innovative and challenging teaching experiences to large groups of students while also catering to their diverse individual needs. Previous experience of supporting diverse home and international students through their educational journey in inclusive and innovative ways is also essential.
