Barking and Dagenham College have an opportunity for a Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) - Maths, to join our team for an August 2026 start.
You will join us full time, 36 hours per week, term time only (40 weeks per year). In return, we will offer a competitive salary of £29,296 to £30,883 per annum (pro rata from full time salary).
Summary
We're an ambitious institution, currently looking for like minded individuals interested in breaking into the high level learner support space. This role is based at the Rush Green campus and is designed to support our commitment to inclusive education, helping learners achieve success across GCSE Maths. You will play a pivotal role in nurturing and coaching learners to overcome barriers, especially those with additional needs, and you'll bring a collaborative, inclusive spirit and a hunger for growth in the teaching support sector.
What we'll need from you
- GCSE or Level 2 Maths (or equivalent) at Pass - essential.
- HLTA status or an equivalent level of education, or a willingness to work towards this pathway. Pass grades at GCSE Maths & English (or Level 2 equivalent) are required.
- A demonstrable background of continuous professional or academic development - ideally in student support across Further Education, either administratively or in a teaching support role.
- The ability to influence change and cultivate meaningful, quality relationships with colleagues and learners across the College.
- A communicative, learner centred approach, able to adapt tailored learning to unique needs.
- We are open to a variety of professional backgrounds. Whether you're a graduate exploring your options or a current teaching assistant looking to expand into a specialist career, we want to get to know you. Experience mentoring or supporting learners with SEN needs (including ADHD, dyslexia, autism) is highly valued.
- Knowledge or interest in safeguarding, child protection procedures, assistive technology and inclusive teaching practices.
