Job Title: Assistant Principal – Health, Childcare and Business
Contract: MC Management, Full time, Permanent
Responsible to: Vice Principal Curriculum
Salary: Management Salary Scale, up to £83,000 per annum (spot salary)
Annual Leave: 36 per annum plus statutory Bank Holidays
Contractual Hours: 37 per week
Pension: Teachers’ Pension or Teesside Pension Scheme
Location: Middlesbrough College Main Campus, TS2 1AD
The Role
We are seeking an ambitious and values‑driven leader to provide strategic and academic leadership within the Faculty. This role will lead the department to support and develop new curricula and employment related opportunities which meet the needs of students and employers. Working as part of the College Management Team, you will drive high‑quality teaching, learning and assessment, deliver excellent student outcomes, and contribute directly to the College’s ambition to become an outstanding provider of education and training.
Key Responsibilities
- To provide strategic academic leadership and management for all staff in the Faculty.
- To develop new curricula and employment related opportunities which meet the needs of students and employers.
- To ensure high quality Teaching, Learning & Assessment and robust management of underperformance.
- To ensure the Faculty is focussed on inclusiveness and ensuring students achieve the highest possible grades and outcomes.
- To participate in strategic and operational planning and delivery as a member of the College Management Team.
- To lead and champion Quality Assurance across the Faculty.
Qualifications
- Degree in an appropriate subject or relevant vocational qualification.
- Qualified teacher with substantial and successful teaching experience.
- Grade C or above in Mathematics and English (or equivalent).
- Evidence of Continuous Professional Development.
Experience
- Successful teaching experience.
- Successful experience of leading a curriculum team.
- Experience of leading and motivating staff through periods of change.
- Successful and recent management experience of curriculum planning and delivering financial and quality outcomes linked to the curriculum plan.
Knowledge & Skills
- Extensive knowledge of curriculum / FE policy and impact.
- Strong motivational leadership skills, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and a team player able who is able to problem solve effectively.
- An understanding of the key developments in Teaching, Learning & Assessment technologies, and strategies.
- Commitment to prioritising the needs of students
