About the role:
The Internal Quality Assurer (IQA) plays an important role in maintaining the quality and integrity of apprenticeship and vocational training programmes. The IQA will support the Lead IQA in carrying out internal quality assurance activities, ensuring that assessment decisions are fair, valid, and consistent, and that delivery meets the requirements of awarding bodies and regulatory standards.
The IQA will work collaboratively with trainers and the wider delivery team to promote high standards in teaching, learning, and assessment, contributing to continuous improvement and positive learner outcomes.
Qualifications:
- QA qualification (e.g., TAQA Level 4, V1, or equivalent)
- Assessor qualification (e.g., CAVA, A1, or equivalent)
- Functional Skills Level 2 or above in English and Maths
- Relevant industry qualifications, where applicable
Skills & experience:
- Proven competency and experience within the Early Years sector is a must
- Experience of assessment within apprenticeships or vocational training
- Experience of internal quality assurance or working towards an IQA qualification
- Knowledge of apprenticeship standards, frameworks and End-Point Assessment (EPA) processes
- Strong understanding of assessment practices and qualification standards
- Good attention to detail and the ability to review learner evidence effectively
- Effective communication and feedback skills
- Strong organisational and time management skills
Duties & Responsibilities will include:
Internal Quality Assurance:
- Support the implementation of the internal quality assurance strategy and sampling plans as directed by the Lead IQA.
- Conduct IQA activities, including sampling learner work, reviewing assessment decisions, and observing trainer practice where appropriate.
- Ensure that assessment decisions are fair, valid, reliable and meet the requirements of awarding organisations and qualification standards.
- Provide constructive feedback to trainers to support the development of their assessment practice
- Contribute to standardisation activities to ensure consistency in assessment practice across the team.
- Maintain accurate and auditable quality assurance records in line with organisational and awarding body requirements.
Compliance and Continuous Improvement:
- Ensure delivery and assessment practices align with apprenticeship standards, frameworks, and other funded programme requirements.
- Support preparation for external quality assurance visits, audits, and awarding body reviews.
- Identify areas for improvement through quality assurance activities and escalate concerns to the Lead IQA where necessary.
- Work collaboratively with trainers and the quality team to support improvements in teaching, learning and assessment.
Supporting Trainers and Delivery Teams:
- Provide guidance and support to trainers in relation to assessment decisions and evidence requirements.
- Promote good practice in assessment and portfolio development.
- Support trainers in understanding qualification requirements, standards and assessment criteria.
- Contribute to internal meetings and standardisation sessions led by the Lead IQA.
- Support the induction and ongoing development of trainers where appropriate.
Reporting:
- Maintain records of IQA activity and outcomes in line with organisational procedures.
- Report findings, risks, and quality trends to the Lead IQA.
- Support the monitoring of quality assurance activities across programmes.
