Key Responsibilities
Plan and deliver structured group tutorials aligned with the academic calendar, programme milestones and institutional priorities
Facilitate sessions focused on academic skills, assessment literacy, time management, wellbeing, employability and key student transition points
Create an inclusive and supportive environment that encourages participation, collaboration and a strong sense of belonging among students
Use student feedback and engagement data to continuously improve the quality and relevance of tutorial delivery
Conduct one-to-one coaching sessions with students to discuss academic progress, goal-setting, personal development and study strategies
Support students in identifying barriers to academic success and developing practical action plans to overcome challenges
Maintain accurate and confidential records of coaching interactions in accordance with institutional policies and data protection regulations
Support students with applications for Disabled Students Allowance (DSA) and encourage effective engagement with support services
Identify when students require specialist support and make appropriate referrals to internal or external services
Monitor student attendance, engagement and academic progress using institutional data systems
Proactively engage with students identified as at risk of disengagement, withdrawal or non-completion, implementing timely interventions
Contribute to student support meetings, case reviews and escalation procedures where required
Work collaboratively with Programme Leaders, lecturers, Student Services and other professional services teams to ensure coordinated support for students
Contribute to student induction, transition activities and retention initiatives across the academic year
Evaluate the effectiveness of coaching and tutorial provision, contributing to the development of resources and support frameworks
Participate in professional development activities related to coaching, student engagement and inclusive education practices
Promote the Colleges commitment to equality, diversity, inclusion and the student voice
The Person
The successful candidate will:
Hold a Bachelors degree in a relevant discipline
Have experience supporting students within a Higher Education or Further Education environment
Demonstrate strong coaching, mentoring or student advisory skills
Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust and rapport with students from diverse backgrounds
Be confident delivering both group workshops and individual support sessions
Demonstrate experience of monitoring student engagement and using data to inform support interventions
Have strong organisational skills with the ability to maintain accurate records and manage competing priorities
Demonstrate understanding of student wellbeing, inclusive education and barriers to student success
Show commitment to safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion within an educational setting
Be proactive, empathetic and solution-focused in supporting student progression and achievement
Reporting Line
The Student Success Coach reports directly to the Dean and works closely with Programme Leaders, Academic Staff and Student Services teams to enhance student engagement, retention and academic success.
