The Role
We are seeking to appoint a Lecturer to contribute to the continued growth and success of the Psychology Department for one year to cover a sabbatical. The successful applicant will play a key role in supporting psychology provision in the areas of degree scheme development, teaching and research. We are seeking a psychology lecturer to contribute across the curriculum and other topics appropriate to undergraduate teaching, such as employability and skills development. The department would welcome applications in all areas of Psychology but would particularly welcome applications in the areas of counselling, coaching and mentoring and in qualitative methodology. An interest in online delivery or provision of courses would be an advantage to support the development of postgraduate online courses. There is scope to advance your own lines of research and applied work in collaboration with colleagues from a variety of disciplines in the University. We welcome applications from psychologists with a PhD or very near to completion, a developing publishing record and those keen to add to a thriving research environment preferably within the themes of: social justice and inequality; social interaction and language; wellbeing, resilience and place; mental, cognitive and physical health and; culture, community and identity.

What you’ll do
This job description is subject to review and amendment in the light of the changing needs of the University, to provide appropriate development opportunities and/or the addition of any other reasonable duties.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Teaching, in the form of lectures, workshops, seminars and similar pedagogical formats, mainly on undergraduate and sometimes postgraduate Psychology programmes.
- Work with psychology staff on the development of online modules for postgraduate students.
- Undertaking assessment of student work at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
- Providing supervision for undergraduate student projects and postgraduate projects as required.
- Providing pastoral and other forms of support for students.
- Supporting and actively taking part in recruitment and marketing activity for the Psychology Department within the university.
- Contributing to the research agenda of the department.
- Have plans, with organisations, businesses, charities, government bodies or other networks, for the impact of their research or to aid teaching duties.
- Work within the required research ethics and governance procedures within the British Psychology Society code of practice as implemented at department and faculty level.
- Participating at an appropriate level in the administrative work of the Department.
- Representing the Department within the University and the wider academic community.
- Undertake other duties as assigned by your line manager, commensurate with the role's grade.
- Engage in university-level projects and initiatives as directed, and undertake any additional duties commensurate with the role, as assigned by the line manager.
- Demonstrate flexibility by supporting colleagues during periods of high demand, including attendance at key university events such as open days and graduation ceremonies which may include weekend work.

Who you are – Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge and Skills required
Essential
- PhD in Psychology or a closely related discipline, or close to completion.
- Previous experience of teaching Psychology courses in Higher Education.
- Demonstrable ability and experience of teaching at different levels, including the delivery of, for example, lectures, practicals, seminars, tutorials and the supervision of project work.
- Understanding of research governance and ethics within a psychology department
- A willingness and ability to participate in all aspects of departmental work.
- An ability to understand the bilingual nature of the University and an awareness of the procedures in place to support working bilingually.
- Understanding of, and commitment to, contemporary approaches to student learning.
- A clear research strategy relating to all research activity (grant submission, outputs and impact)
- The ability to work effectively in a small team environment.
- Excellent organisational and communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
Desirable
- Previous experience of contributing to module co-ordination
- Previous experience of contributing to module development.
- Experience of developing online modules, writing content for online courses and/or delivering online content.
- Experience of taking part in student recruitment activities
- Evidence of external networks around research activity.
- Belong to an external academic or professional research-based organisation or group.
- Oral (spoken) and Written Welsh Level B1.*
- An ability to teach modules through the medium of Welsh.
