About the role
As we expand our portfolio, we are seeking a skilled and experienced Examiner in ESOL for the international market.
The Examiner will provide expertise in marking the speaking and writing elements of the qualification and contribute to awarding and continuous improvement processes. The postholder will ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, consistency across assessment series, and effective standard-setting processes. They will also work collaboratively with internal departments and stakeholders to uphold the validity and comparability of assessments.
Key Responsibilities Awarding Leadership and Compliance
- Ensure the valid, reliable and fair marking and moderation of assessments.
- Attend standardisation and grade boundary setting across assessments.
- Monitor comparability of assessment demand and performance across centres, series and formats.
- Produce accurate, appropriate and well-informed assessment feedback/written reports to validate assessment decisions using the correct and as required regulatory paperwork and appropriate systems.
- Experience in organising and processing examining practices; sampling of evidence; making judgements and providing constructive developmental feedback.
- Support post-results services.
- Follow the subject-specific assessment strategy in collaboration with the Assessment Development and Quality teams.
Quality Assurance and Continuous Improvement
- Support investigations into suspected malpractice, marking discrepancies, and appeals.
- Identify conflicts of interest within the team.
Collaboration and Strategy
- Work in close collaboration with the Qualifications, Assessment, Exams & Operations, and Quality Assurance teams.
- Provide insights into curriculum reform, sector developments, and regulatory shifts to inform TQUK strategy.
Experience & Skills Essential
- A degree and a teaching qualification.
- ESOL qualification such as: MA TESOL, Cambridge DELTA or Trinity Diploma TESOL.
- Significant subject expertise in ESOL (particularly for the international market).
- Strong track record of marking, examining and moderation in ESOL (eg. IELTS or Cambridge suite).
- In-depth understanding of ESOL and the regulatory environment.
- Exceptional attention to detail and ability to interpret complex data.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and open to using e-technologies for collaboration.
Desirable
- Knowledge of recent reforms in ESOL.
- Experience with digital assessment platforms.
- Familiarity with TQUKs product suite and awarding body operations.
