We are looking for experts with lived experience of Learning disabilities and/or Autism to join our Oliver McGowan training team. You will deliver mandatory training in Learning Disability and Autism to health and social care staff, classroom participants and online webinar audiences. The goal is to help people understand their role in supporting learning-disabled and autistic individuals and the difference they can make to improve care.
Main
duties of the job
You should be confident and comfortable speaking to groups of staff about your lived experiences. Full training will be provided with ongoing support to develop your skills. The training follows a script, and a facilitator will support the session in the classroom.
Topics within the training include
- Learning disability awareness and/or understanding autism.
- Reasonable adjustments.
- Supporting people with a learning disability and autistic people with mental health conditions.
- Communication.
- Supporting young people with a learning disability.
The role involves working with other experts and may include training other experts and trainers to become part of the Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training team. Flexible delivery includes online 1‑hour sessions and face‑to‑face sessions of up to 30 participants that last approximately 3 hours. You may need to travel independently to different venues.

Job responsibilities
General Duties- Work with co‑facilitators/trainers to deliver training sessions using a range of methods, including traditional delivery, group discussions and film.
- Participate in training and rehearsals to develop confidence and skills.
- Maintain a professional, friendly and welcoming presence for participants.
- Collaborate with the team to evaluate what works well and identify improvements.
- Help adjust training schedules and plans when needed.
- Travel to venues across the region.
- Deliver training sessions at evenings or weekends as agreed.
- Attend meetings and training to develop skills and ensure consistent, high‑quality delivery.
Communication and Working Relationship Skills- Communicate key information and issues to stakeholders.
- Speak confidently before groups.
- Promote the training and encourage attendance.
- Build good working relationships with the team and staff.
- Share your lived experience with co‑facilitators, trainers and delegates.
- Create a supportive training environment and communicate respectfully with delegates before, during and after sessions.
- Provide support to other co‑facilitators and participants.
- Inform involved parties about any factors affecting program delivery.
- Address routine and non‑routine questions from participants and co‑facilitators, seeking help if needed.
- Co‑teach large, multidisciplinary groups.
Analytical and Judgemental Skills- Identify effective practices and propose improvements.
- Manage unexpected issues by adjusting schedules.
Planning and Organisational Skills- Plan and organise training delivery and prioritise daily activities.
Person Specification Qualifications
- GCSE in Maths or English or lived experience of a learning disability or being an autistic person.
- Proof of lived experience of a learning disability or being an autistic person.
Training Experience
- Interest in delivering training to health and social care staff.
- Strong training communication skills.
- Comfortable speaking in front of people and understanding delivery needs.
- Experience reviewing and delivering training.
Planning and Organisation
- Ability to manage competing priorities and adapt to change.
- Planning and organisational skills.
Other
- Understanding of confidentiality issues.
- Experience in a customer‑care environment.
- Travel to training venues across the region.
