In this newly created role you will be the face of training excellence in our growing organisation. You will play a key role in building a new training centre from the ground up whilst enjoying the freedom to innovate and shape programmes that make a real impact
NY Highways is a Teckel organisation established in 2021. We are responsible for maintaining 9,700 kms of roads across North Yorkshire with a budget of £60m per annum. We have approximately 250 employees, as well as casual staff who deliver Winter duties, working from depots and offices throughout the county. Training is a key priority for us, and this is your chance to take the lead in developing and delivering industry‑recognised training that keeps our people safe, skilled and ready for the future.
We operate in close partnership with North Yorkshire Council, combining a commercial focus with public sector values. While we work closely with the Council, NY Highways Property is an independent business and not part of the Council itself.
What You’ll Be Doing as Lead Trainer
- Delivering hands‑on, practical training on plant machinery (excavators, dumpers, rollers, telehandlers)
- Designing, developing and delivering engaging training sessions that bring theory to life
- Shaping our training strategy alongside the HR and leadership teams.
- Working closely with the training coordinator, managing a training delivery operation of a busy and dynamic organisation, ensuring training compliance and safety.
- Creating quality and effective training materials and methods that meet learning objectives, industry standards and inspire confidence
- Driving a commercial training offer that brings in revenue and builds our reputation
- Managing resources, budgets, and people to keep the Training Centre running smoothly
- Working collaboratively with partners to grow a centre of excellence in highways training.

What you’ll have to be successful in this role:
- Experience in training with NPORS accreditation (or equivalent)
- Extensive experience of designing and delivering training within a busy organisation.
- Someone who thrives on developing others, takes pride in seeing people succeed, is passionate about training and is flexible and resilient enough to cope under pressure
- A confident communicator who can engage learners at every level
- A strategic thinker who can balance big‑picture planning with day‑to‑day delivery
- A creative individual who has tenacity when faced with challenges.
- Someone willing to travel across the county and work as part of a dynamic team as well as being independent and self-disciplined.
