Job Overview
C&G Education is seeking a dedicated and experienced Employability / Vocational Specialist Teacher to deliver our ‘Skills for Working Life’ curriculum to young people with SEND across Sussex. This role is ideal for an educator passionate about supporting students with SEMH needs and those at risk of becoming NEET (Not in Education, Employment, or Training).
The position involves both teaching and planning, with a commitment of two hours of teaching and two hours of planning per student. Each students’ programme runs around their local community, so you will need to be prepared to travel to your students location to deliver any direct teaching. As a freelance specialist teacher, you will work on an individual contract basis, supporting students in their local communities and helping them develop essential employability and life skills.

Key Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality, tailored teaching sessions focused on employability and work skills, using engaging and accessible materials.
- Plan and prepare dynamic and adaptable lesson content aligned with the ‘Skills for Working Life’ curriculum.
- Adapt teaching methods to meet the diverse needs of students with SEND/SEMH, ensuring accessibility and engagement.
- Assess individual learning requirements and develop customised strategies to maximise student progress.
- Support students on their journey towards employment by embedding practical work skills, problem-solving, teamwork, and independence.
- Collaborate with Job Coaches to ensure a holistic approach to student development, integrating real-world work experiences.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress and provide structured feedback to students, parents/guardians, and stakeholders.
- Liaise with the Managing Director and team members to ensure effective programme delivery and ongoing improvements.
- Travel across Sussex to deliver one-to-one teaching in community settings, requiring flexibility and independence.
- Engage in training and professional development opportunities to stay updated on best practices in SEND education and vocational training.
- Build relationships with external organisations and businesses to enhance student learning opportunities and secure work experience placements.
Person SpecificationEssential Qualifications & Experience:
- QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) or QTLS (Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills certification).
- Experience working with SEND students, particularly those with SEMH needs.
- Proven ability to adapt curriculum delivery to individual student needs, including modifying lesson plans for different learning abilities.
- Strong understanding of employability skills and vocational education.
- Ability to work independently as a freelance educator while maintaining strong communication with C&G Education.
- Excellent organisational skills to ensure timely planning, lesson delivery, and student progress tracking.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, enabling positive engagement with students, families, and professional partners.
