Job Purpose:
This role will play a pivotal part in ensuring the safety and efficiency of our fleet. You will achieve this by delivering industry leading training and support to drivers and all staff, by effectively collaborating with all departments you will be empowering them to operate vehicles safely, economically and in full compliance with the UK law.
This dynamic role demands flexibility and adaptability, including travel to different sites across our workstream.
Principle Responsibilities and Duties:
Support all staff in complying with the undertakings of the operating licence
Ensure Gate checks, depot compliance and transport audits are monitored, carried out and acted on
Monitor and assist all employees in having the ability to complete their daily tasks in accordance with UK compliance & road laws, health & safety & driver regulations without taking, or causing any additional risks; these include but not limited to
- Liaising with all managers & supervisors daily, ensuring vehicles & trailers are compliant for daily use
- Liaising with yard, workshop, operator, and fleet management departments to ensure all the depot targets are achieved regarding transport
- Ensure all vehicle breakdowns are dealt with in a timely matter and facilitate calls when out of hours for breakdowns
- Assist with minor defect repairs/fitment & removal of equipment on vehicles and trailers
Monitor driver compliance and health & safety,
- Foremost ensuring all the drivers are working within company and legal guidelines
- Carry out periodic assessments and refresher training to improve and change driving styles and culture, reduce accidents and ensure improved driving performance to new and existing drivers
- Deliver and monitor all CPC training and maintain accurate records to ensure all required hours are completed prior to their expiry dates
- Carry out initial driver licence checks and review licence checks in line with company policies
Fully utilise the telematics & tachograph systems
- To monitor driver behaviours and safe driving,
- To monitoring infringements and capture missing mileage ensuring KPI’s are met
- Complete driver de-briefs to ensure they are driving safely, efficiently and meeting agreed KPI’s
- Monitor Working time directive and Driver Hours ensuring KPI’s are met
Prevention of accidents & incidents,
- By conducting accident & incident investigations,
- Reviewing all evidence to advise on skills, training gaps and areas for improvement.
- Advise on appropriate action taken in line with KPI’s
- Provide post incident assessments and driver checks
Ensure administration tasks are completed and filed
Understand that our business has operational challenges and changes, the driver trainer will be able to adapt, perform and carry out the required changes for the business as and when required
Work closely with HSEQ and Operations departments to onboard new employees, in regard to all RAMS, Policies and procedures, driver regulations to ensure each employee has the skills and knowledge to work safely both within their role and environment
- Provide follow up support and guidance for new and existing drivers
Review and implement all driver training requirements to ensure all staff are compliant and ensure compliance KPI’s are achieved.
- Assisting in the creation and implementation of an on-site safe driving program
- Assisting in the creation and delivery of periodic driver toolbox talks, ensuring full understanding by all staff
Maintain accurate records for internal purposes and FORS to ensure each location meets all required standards in preparation for both external and internal audits
Assist with the raising of purchase order numbers
Provide cover for Holiday, absence or workload within the transport department
Essential Skills and Knowledge requirements:
- Demonstrate a good work ethic and wiliness to learn
- Demonstrate A good standard of computer literacy, particularly MS Office applications
- Demonstrate excellent communication and presentation skills
- Demonstrate substantial experience of working within Fleet & Transport
- Understand UK transport compliance law including DVSA publications, industry best practices, government legalisation and keep up to date with industry changes.
- Full Clean UK Driving Licence (Preferred Class 1)
- Being Proactive, self-motivated, able to prioritise and remain calm under pressure
- Transport Manager CPC (Preferred)
- Driver Assessor/Instructor certificated - DVSA/RTITB/FTA/ROSPA or equivalent (Preferred)
- JAUPT Approved (Preferred)
- Ability to demonstrate, understand and apply our company values.

- Stay up to date with vehicle technical changes and share relevant information with the business and drivers
