EYFS 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant Preston May Start
Location: Preston, Lancashire
Start Date: May 2026
Salary: £14.24 - £15.00 per hour
Contract: Temporary (Initial 6 weeks, potential to extend to July 2026)
Shift Options: Part-time (Afternoons) OR Full-time (Full Days)
Working Pattern Options
- Option 1: Part-Time (Afternoons Only) - Monday to Friday, 12:30 - 15:30. Focus exclusively on specialist 1:1 support for a non-verbal child during the afternoon session.
- Option 2: Full-Time (Full Days) - Monday to Friday, 08:30 - 15:30. Spend mornings as a general EYFS TA supporting the wider Reception/Nursery cohort, then transition into the dedicated 1:1 SEN role in the afternoon.
The Role & Responsibilities
- Act as a dedicated learning partner for a child with complex communication needs.
- 1:1 Specialist Support: Interpret needs and facilitate communication for a non-verbal pupil using visual aids and sensory cues.
- EHCP Implementation: Work closely with the SENDCo and Class Teacher to meet the specific targets outlined in the child's plan.
- EYFS Curriculum Access: Adapt play-based learning activities to ensure they are accessible, inclusive, and engaging.
- Nurturing Environment: Apply the six principles of nurture to create a safe, literacy-rich space for the child to grow.

Requirements
- Qualification: A recognised EYFS qualification (Level 2 or Level 3) is essential.
- Experience: Proven experience supporting children with SEND, particularly those who are non-verbal or have complex communication needs.
- Communication: Knowledge of alternative communication methods (e.g., Makaton, PECS, or visual timetables) is highly desirable.
- Attributes: Patience, resilience, and a proactive approach to building a strong 1:1 bond.
