Permanent, Full Time
You know the craft. Now teach what professional hairdressing really takes. Your students may arrive knowing they love hairdressing. Your job is to turn that interest into skill, confidence and professional judgement.
As our Hairdressing Lecturer, you’ll teach students from Entry Level to Level 3. You’ll help them master practical techniques, understand salon standards and develop the client care, discipline and confidence the industry expects.
This is hands-on teaching. You’ll demonstrate techniques, guide students through practical salon work, assess their progress and help them understand how to improve. You’ll show them that good hairdressing is not just about the finished look. It is about consultation, preparation, safe working, timing, communication and knowing how to make a client feel at ease.
You’ll bring current or recent industry experience into the classroom and salon. You’ll help students connect what they learn with the realities of working in a salon, building a client base, moving into an apprenticeship, progressing to further study or starting out on their own.
You do not need to arrive as a finished teacher. If you know your craft, can explain it clearly and want to help others develop, we can support you to build your teaching practice and gain the qualifications you need.

Why work with us
Great hairdressing teaching happens in the detail.
It is the moment a student finally understands how to control a section. The feedback that helps them correct a technique. The first time they complete a client service with confidence. The point where they stop seeing themselves as a learner and start behaving like a professional.
At Wigan & Leigh College, you’ll help create those moments.
You’ll teach in a practical salon environment where students can build real experience and understand the standards expected in the industry. You’ll work with colleagues who want the curriculum to stay current, practical and connected to where students are going next.
You’ll have the chance to bring your industry knowledge into teaching, develop your own practice and help students build careers in salons, apprenticeships, further study and self-employment.
This is a role for someone who still cares about the craft and now wants to pass it on properly.
