A supportive and inclusive primary setting in Kensington & Chelsea is seeking a dedicated and experienced Specialist SEN Teaching Assistant to provide full-time 1:1 support for a child with Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN).
This is an excellent opportunity for a patient, nurturing, and proactive individual who is passionate about supporting children with additional needs and helping them access learning, build confidence, and develop communication skills within the classroom environment.
The Role
In this role, you will work closely on a 1:1 basis with a pupil with identified Speech, Language and Communication Needs, supporting both their academic progress and social development throughout the school day.
You will work collaboratively with the class teacher, SENCO, external professionals, and the child's family to implement tailored strategies and interventions that support communication, language development, emotional regulation, and engagement in learning.
The successful candidate will adapt learning materials, reinforce communication targets, and help create a consistent, structured, and supportive environment where the child feels safe, understood, and encouraged to participate in all aspects of school life.
You will also:
- Support the child during lessons, transitions, and social interactions
- Deliver targeted speech and language interventions under the guidance of professionals
- Use visual supports, communication strategies, and differentiated approaches to aid understanding
- Encourage independence, confidence, and positive peer relationships
- Monitor progress and contribute to observations, reports, and review meetings
- Support emotional regulation and communication frustrations in a calm and consistent manner
- Work closely with teachers and therapists to ensure effective support strategies are implemented daily

To apply for this role, you must:
- Have previous experience supporting children with Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN) within a school or specialist setting or hold a relevant qualification relating to Speech & Language, SEN, Child Development, or SEND Support
- Have experience working within a primary school or SEN setting
- Demonstrate a strong understanding of communication strategies and SEN support approaches
- Be patient, nurturing, and able to build positive relationships with children
- Have strong communication and teamwork skills
- Be confident working on a 1:1 basis with a child with additional needs
- Be available to start ASAP on a full-time basis
Experience supporting children with ASD, DLD, or social communication difficulties would be highly advantageous.
