Nursery Practitioner

£30,630 - £32,346 a year pro rata inclusive of HCAS (Outer)
The Nursery Practitioner will care for children aged 3 months to 5 years, maintaining Ofsted ratios in groups of no more than 9 per room, alongside another qualified staff member. Responsibilities include:
- Maintain a high standard of care for every child.
- Be aware of all needs of the children and encourage their development in every area.
- Plan activities using Birth to Five Matters curriculum and create Individual Development Maps.
- Keep Learning Journeys up to date and review regularly with parents.
- Work efficiently and as part of a team, informing staff of any changes affecting children or nursery.
- Provide support to colleagues, ensuring ratios are maintained.
- Attend monthly team meetings after 5.30pm.
- Be flexible to provide cover as required.
Shift pattern: 7.00am 3.15pm or 9.15am 5.30pm on alternating days - 7.5 hours per day, total 37.5 hours per week.
Transport links: Norbiton Station at the end of the road and multiple buses stop at the hospital site or at the end of the road.
Honey Bees Nursery is located on the grounds of Kingston Hospital and provides day care for children whose parents or carers are employed by the Trust.
Qualifications
- Minimum Level 3 qualification in Childcare or Education (e.g., NNEB, NVQ 3, CACHE 3).
- First Aid Course.
- Food Hygiene.
Experience
- Minimum 1 year recent experience with children 3 months 5 years (within past 6 months). Newly qualified staff may count placements.

- Good organisational, record keeping and planning skills.
- Excellent communication skills with children, colleagues, advisors and parents/carers.
- Empathy with children, colleagues and parents/carers.
- Positive approach to inclusive practice.
Knowledge
- Sound knowledge of child development and current legislation and guidance.
- Comprehensive knowledge of child development.
- Thorough knowledge of how to manage child protection issues.
Other
- Enthusiasm and passion for working with young children.
- Commitment to provision of high quality childcare.
