About the Role
We are seeking an experienced, forward-thinking Clinical Tutor (Developmental role) to play a pivotal role in the strategic leadership, delivery, and enhancement of our NHS-commissioned Professional Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (DClinPsy).
This senior post strengthens UEL’s position as a leading provider of postgraduate clinical psychology training and contributes directly to regional workforce development, health innovation, and interdisciplinary research. You will work closely with NHS Trust partners, senior academic colleagues, and external stakeholders to ensure the programme continues to meet the highest professional, clinical, and academic standards.

Key Responsibilities
As Senior Clinical Tutor & Academic Lead, you will:
Strategic Leadership & Programme Development
Provide senior academic leadership within the DClinPsy programme, contributing to long-term planning, curriculum innovation, and quality enhancement.
Lead on key strategic initiatives aligned with UEL’s priorities in health innovation, community engagement, and EDI.
Strengthen partnerships with NHS Trusts, professional bodies, and external agencies to support workforce development and training excellence.
Clinical Training & Academic Delivery
Act as senior tutor for a designated year group, with oversight of trainee progression, wellbeing, and professional development.
Lead and deliver advanced teaching across clinical skills, professional development, and specialist modules.
Oversee placement planning and monitoring in collaboration with NHS partners, ensuring high-quality training experiences.
Provide expert guidance to trainees and supervisors, addressing complex placement issues with professionalism and sensitivity.
Research Leadership
Supervise doctoral research and contribute to the development of research capacity within the programme.
Support the integration of research, clinical practice, and innovation across the curriculum.
Quality Assurance & Governance
Contribute to programme governance, including assessment boards, validation events, accreditation processes, and external reviews.
Ensure compliance with HCPC, BPS, NHS, and university standards.
Equality, Diversity & Inclusion
Champion UEL’s commitment to inclusive, culturally competent training.
Embed EDI principles across curriculum design, teaching practice, and trainee support.
Essential Criteria
Qualification in Clinical or Counselling Psychology recognised by the BPS as conferring eligibility for Chartered Status.
HCPC registration as a Practitioner Psychologist.
Significant post-qualification experience within the NHS.
Strong understanding of current professional issues in UK clinical psychology and NHS service delivery.
Experience teaching, supervising, and assessing at the postgraduate level.
Excellent communication, leadership, and report-writing skills.
Desirable Criteria
Research experience, ideally within NHS or applied clinical settings.
Experience supervising doctoral-level research.
Previous involvement in Clinical or Counselling Psychology training programmes.
Experience supervising trainees in clinical settings.
