About the role
We are seeking an Assistant Professor in Biological Imaging and Artificial Intelligence within the School of Engineering. The role focuses on establishing an independent research profile and delivering research informed education in biomedical and biological imaging and AI. The post holder will work primarily with the Biomedical Engineering Research Group and can collaborate with colleagues in Digital Manufacturing and Management and Mechanics of Materials.
In addition to research, responsibilities include teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate engineering programmes, supervising student research projects, contributing to curriculum development, designing new academic programmes, undertaking appropriate administrative and leadership responsibilities, supporting outreach and recruitment activities, and contributing to the effective operation of the School and wider University.
About you
You will hold a good first degree in engineering, science or applied mathematics, together with a PhD or equivalent research or industrial experience in a relevant field such as data science, artificial intelligence or biological imaging.
You will demonstrate a developing or established track record of high quality research publications and be able to plan and deliver a substantive research programme, including preparing competitive funding proposals.
You will hold, or be willing to work towards, professional registration and a recognised academic teaching qualification.
You will be an effective educator with the ability to teach, supervise and assess students at undergraduate and postgraduate level, and to contribute to curriculum development using appropriate teaching approaches.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to manage competing priorities, and the capacity to work collaboratively within an academic environment are essential for success in this role.
