As an organisation they are committed to quality, and deliver a rigorous apprenticeship end point assessment service. Their service helps to ensure that apprentices, working within a range of industries, are able to do the job they are trained for.They currently require End Point Assessors (EPAs) for Apprentices undertaking the Power Industry Substation Fitter standard, to join their bank of Independent End Point Assessors.As an EPA you will carry out apprentice assessments, including practical observations and technical interviews. You’ll play a vital role in validating skills and knowledge.To work as an EPA for the Power Industry Substation Fitter Standard you will need to possess up-to-date occupational knowledge and competence.STANDARD - POWER INDUSTRY SUBSTATION FITTERSubstation fitters work in the power industry for power network owners, operators, or contractors. They work in and around substations. A substation is a part of an electrical generation, transmission, and distribution system. Substations transform voltage from high to low, or the reverse, and other important functions. Between the generating station and consumer, electric power may flow through several substations at different voltage levels.The Office of gas and electricity markets (Ofgem) regulates the industry.This is a core and options apprenticeship. An apprentice must be trained and assessed on the core and one option relevant to their role. The options are:Option 1. Substation fitter - distribution maintenanceOption 2. Substation fitter - transmission maintenanceOption 3. Substation fitter - constructionSubstation maintenance fitters inspect, test and maintain substation equipment, earthing and batteries, and carry out repairs. They specialise in distribution or transmission. Distribution maintenance covers systems operating typically between 1, volts, whereas transmission maintenance covers systems operating typically between 132, volts, with differences in equipment and working procedures.THE ROLE The role is offered on an flexible basis via a zero hours contract. The hours available vary dependent on demand, and registered EPAs always have a choice to accept assignments based on their availability.
