About the Role
We are offering an exciting opportunity for a talented clinical academic Occupational Therapist/Physiotherapist/Speech and Language Therapist/Dietitian to provide senior clinical and professional leadership to the Major Trauma Centre at the Royal London Hospital (RLH), and leading a programme of research aligned with the NIHR Barts Biomedical Research Centre (BRC).
Key Responsibilities
The post will have a 50:50 clinical: academic split.
· Clinical: The post holder will be a senior member of the multidisciplinary team at the RLH, working with the most complex patients across the major trauma pathway. They will exercise a high degree of professional autonomy, using advanced clinical reasoning to assess and manage patients with complex needs, and to guide appropriate multidisciplinary interventions. The post holder will also contribute to the development of trauma rehabilitation practice and support the design and delivery of education and professional development programs for trauma staff within the RLH and the wider trauma network.
· Research: Develop and lead a research programme aligned with the musculoskeletal theme within the BRC. This research may be based on your previous work or can fit with existing projects such as:
o Targeting mechanistic pathways underpinning muscle dysfunction from generalised atrophy observed for trauma cohorts, enabling comparison to clinical outcomes from disease-specific skeletal muscle signatures
o Integration of routinely collected rehabilitation data and outcomes to BRC digital infrastructures to enable data-driven targeted rehabilitation
o Development of precision trials for musculoskeletal rehabilitation and/or those which cut across wider BRC themes e.g. cardiac rehabilitation
About You
We are looking for enthusiastic, HCPC-registered Therapist with clinical experience at AFC Band 8a or above and a PhD.
· Clinical: Applicants should demonstrate advanced capability in undertaking highly complex specialist assessments and in developing and delivering individualised, evidence-based rehabilitation and management plans for patients with multifaceted needs following major trauma. Experience in leading rehabilitation that addresses functional recovery, participation, and complex discharge planning across the trauma pathway would be advantageous.
· Research: Applicants should have a track record of high-quality major trauma research evidenced by publications in top journals, a record of bidding for and securing funding, and subsequent effective award management.
The successful candidate will play a critical role in developing a sustainable pipeline of allied health clinical academics and strengthening research culture within BH and QMUL.

Barts Health (BH) Major Trauma Centre at the RLH is the hub of the largest Trauma Network in the UK, providing trauma care for 5 million people. The BRC brings outstanding science to ~7.5 million patients with rare and common diseases so ground-breaking discoveries can be translated into treatment.

The post is full time (37.5 hours/week) based at the RLH and the Centre for Bone & Joint Health in the Blizzard Institute. The starting salary will be matched to Agenda for Change (NHS) up to band 8c and include London Allowance.
