Description
We are seeking enthusiastic and committed English Lecturers to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity to deliver high-quality teaching across Entry Level and Level 2 Functional Skills, and/ or GCSE English to learners aged 16–18 and/or adults.
We have opportunities for full-time and part-time roles, with permanent, hourly-paid, and fixed-term contracts available. You will have the chance to work during the day or evening, supporting learners to develop essential skills for employment, further study, and personal progression.

Key Responsibilities
- Deliver engaging and high-quality English lessons (Functional Skills Entry Level to Level 2 and/ or GCSE) to learners of varying abilities
- Plan and prepare schemes of work, lesson materials, and assessments
- Use digital and multimedia resources to enhance learning
- Assess learner work and provide constructive feedback
- Act as a course tutor, supporting learners to achieve their targets
- Maintain accurate learner records and support programme administration
- Participate in curriculum planning, team meetings, and standardisation activities
- Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of the curriculum
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Degree in English or a related subject
- Teaching qualification (Certificate in Education or Level 5 teaching qualification)
- Experience delivering and assessing Functional Skills English; GCSE experience desirable
- Strong understanding of assessment, internal verification, and learner support
- Ability to prepare engaging learning materials and adapt teaching to diverse learner needs
- Excellent organisational, administrative, and communication skills
- Confident using technology to support teaching and learning
Teaching Qualifications & Salary Banding
To be eligible for our
Qualified Lecturer salary banding (£31,837 - £48,160), you must hold one of the following teaching qualifications:
Accepted Qualifications:- DTTLS (Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector)
- Certificate in Education
- PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education)
- ProfGCE (Professional Graduate Certificate in Education)
- DET (Diploma in Education and Training)
- DiT (Diploma in Teaching) – if for a vocational subject
If you do not hold one of the above qualifications, you will fall into our
Unqualified Lecturer salary banding (£26,661 - £29,998).
Not Accepted as Stand Alone Qualifications:- PTLLS (Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector)
- CTLLS (Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector)
- CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults)
- SFHEA (Senior Fellowship)
- Masters in Education
- TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language)
