1. The Appointment
The post holder will be expected to provide support to staff and learner within the air con and refrigeration department. You will assist in the efficient and effective operation of the college workshops and will organise the tools and materials as well as ordering materials from manufacturers. You will also be expected to work across the workshops and sites where necessary.
The ideal candidate will be required to support the team teaching within the College and the safe maintenance of equipment, preparation areas and workshops. The role will also include a ‘demonstration’ element. This will involve the delivery of practical sessions as and when required. To facilitate this, the ideal candidate will complete an assessing qualification and a Health & Safety qualification.
This role will also support the progress review process of apprentices completing RACHP Apprenticeships in the workplace and will support the apprentices’ progress through the relevant programmes at intermediate and advanced levels. The role requires monitored visits to see apprentices and employers in the workplace, as well as frequent attendance at the colleges site, liaising with technical delivery staff and supporting apprentices with the knowledge requirements.
You will be a highly self-motivated, energetic, and driven individual, encompassing a strong sense of autonomy. You will possess strong presentation and communication skills and be able to demonstrate achievement of targets.
It is essential to have industrial experience within the Air Conditioning and Refrigeration sector. This is a hands-on teaching, assessing and reviewing role, taught both onsite at our Construction and Building Services centre and at employer’s premises.
You must be confident working with young people and willing to lead both practical and theory sessions. This post carries a commitment of delivery hours with flexibility to carry out assessments of apprentices as and when required.
The Construction & Building Services apprenticeship provision at Vision West Nottinghamshire College is based at the Construction & Building Services Centre. The team work closely with employers to offer high-quality apprenticeships in Construction Crafts and Building Services, supporting learners with their progression through the course of their apprenticeship journey.

2. The Post
- Main Duties and Responsibilities
- To assist in the preparation of teaching aids, equipment and materials in the organising of workshops/practical areas, this will include:
- The preparation of assessment areas before assessment
- Preparing materials and equipment for practical assessment components
- To inspect, repair and maintain relevant equipment.
- To organise the ordering, storage and stock control of all relevant materials, checking deliveries against delivery notes and storing goods.
- To produce maintenance schedules as and when required, keeping to deadlines.
- To construct and modify teaching aids.
- To undertake an element of demonstration/assessment. This will involve the delivery of practical sessions as and when required, to include sickness cover.
- To regularly review and evaluate systems and procedures.
- To meet regularly with staff in order to identify key tasks and roles.
- To advise staff and learners in safe working practices.
- To maintain and distribute a good stock of necessary equipment.
- Any other duties that may reasonably be regarded as commensurate with the responsibilities.
- To comply fully with Health and Safety legislation related to the role and follow agreed procedures within work areas including:
- To take reasonable care of the health and safety of yourself and other persons who may be affected by your/learner activity.To safeguard the health and safety of all persons under your supervision in accordance with legislation.
- To exercise proper care in handling, operating and safeguarding any equipment or appliances issued by WNC for post holder’s individual or collective use in the performance of their duties.
- Work with the Health & Safety Team to ensure Risk Assessments and COSHH regulations are accurate and up to date.
- To contribute to team planning, development and support of innovative curriculum delivery and learning opportunities.
- To utilise your professional knowledge and skill to regularly review the apprentice’s progress against the standard and in conjunction with the apprentice and employer, make informed judgements that clearly demonstrate that the apprentice is deemed competent against the relevant requirements of that standard.
- To keep up to date with curriculum and industry initiatives, development of standards and general developmental and professional issues relating to the delivery of learning in your area.
- To support the apprentice to meet all of the knowledge, skills and behaviours required of their apprenticeship standard.Working in conjunction with the employer you will tailor your delivery to compliment the learning, development and continuous assessment being managed by the employer and support the employer to do this effectively.
- To undertake Continuing Professional Development as agreed with line manager.
- To comply fully with financial regulations.
