We are seeking a electrician with a passion for developing the next generation of electrical professionals. The Electrical Tutor will play a key role in delivering high-quality electrotechnical training to apprentices, supporting them throughout their learning journey and ensuring successful, timely completion of their apprenticeship programme.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver teaching and/or assessing to allocated apprentice groups, with dedicated time for lesson preparation and planning.
- Plan, develop, and maintain Schemes of Work and lesson plans for nominated groups, ensuring correct version control.
- Deliver engaging lessons aligned to the Scheme of Work, including the completion and assessment of assignments.
- Work closely with onsite assessors to ensure assessments are carried out in line with agreed plans, including Health & Safety reviews where required.
- Support onsite assessors operationally when needed.
- Monitor apprentice progress against agreed milestones, maintaining accurate and up-to-date learner records.
- Provide on-programme information, advice, and guidance to apprentices.
- Ensure progress reviews meet Ofsted requirements and funding body compliance.
- Complete and maintain all required course documentation and learner folders as issued by the apprenticeship administration team.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of teaching, learning, and assessment processes.
- Attend training team meetings, standardisation meetings, and other relevant internal meetings.
- Engage effectively with all stakeholders (apprentices, employers, assessors, internal teams) to ensure a high level of customer service.
- Participate in Continuous Professional Development (CPD) and training activities as agreed with the line manager.
- Ensure safeguarding, welfare, and disciplinary matters are handled in line with organisational policies and reported to the Curriculum Lead as required.
- Work towards achieving timely completion, performance targets, and overall programme success.
Person Specification
Essential:
- Time-served electrician with strong industry experience
- Relevant electrical qualifications at Level 3 or above
- Knowledge of electrotechnical apprenticeship standards
- Experience of training, mentoring, teaching, or assessing apprentices (or a strong desire to move into education)
- Good understanding of Health & Safety within the electrical industry
- Strong organisational and record-keeping skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Desirable:
- Teaching qualification (e.g. AET, CET, PGCE) or willingness to work towards one
- Assessing qualification (e.g. TAQA, A1)
- Knowledge of Ofsted and apprenticeship funding requirements
- Experience working with apprentices in a training or FE environment
