Freelance ESOL/TEFL teachers wanted to join an exciting pool of Speak Street teachers- a not for profit working to support newcomers to London.
About Speak Street:
Speak Street was founded 10 years ago as a positive response to negativity towards migrants. Our aims are to increase individuals skills and confidence and celebrate our diverse community. We work across London and online offering Free English classes to refugees, asylum seekers and migrants offering flexible non accredited community based sessions. Our mantra is fun, social, learning and our core values are positivity, innovation and empathy.
Most of our students are adults but we also work in school settings.
The Role:
We are looking for qualified ESOL/CELTA teachers who would like to join the pool of teachers on a freelance basis as we scale and grow. Initially there would be a 30min-1hour meeting in W/C 9th Februrary 2026 by mutual arrangement.
As we are a growing not for profit organisation this is hard to predict so the role would suit someone with existing part-time work commitments or flexible availability. We are especially looking for teachers with availability term-time Wednesdays March-End of May 2026 Wednesday Mornings 9-12.40 in Tottenham North London
Although there would be no guaranteed hours,once inducted you would remain part of the pool of teachers that could be contacted as future work becomes available for your consideration This could be a one-off or an on-going basis.
Rate of Pay:
The pay would be £30/hour for a lead teaching role or £20/hour in a teaching assistant role. Session times vary from daytime, evening and weekend. Pay for sessions is inclusive of preparation time.
Job requirements when leading a Speak Street session:
- Respond to a brief. plan, deliver and evaluate a mixed ability class (with the support of the Program Manager)
- Have access to or create suitable learning materials for the session if necessary (Printing can be reimbursed).
- Manage volunteers in the class to help support the students.
- Report back to the Program Manager.
- DBS checks are required
Person Specification:
* Minimum CELTA Qualification or equivalent.
* A passion for welcoming and supporting newcomers to learn English
* A warm approachable manner to create a positive atmosphere.
* Experience of teaching community ESOL Sessions.
* The ability to teach in a clear and inclusive manner.
* Be able to adapt to the needs of the group but adhering to and enforcing boundaries of acceptable behaviour at the Speak Street sessions.
* Ability to teach over zoom including making use of functions such as whiteboard, break out rooms, polls.
* An understanding of safeguarding and confidentiality.
* DBS requred
