We are looking for a professionally qualified and experienced librarian to join the Learning & Development senior leadership team and manage the Library Service. The service supports a community and mental health NHS Trust providing care across a large geographical area with three Library sites, currently in Oxford and Aylesbury.
The role is very varied and has an impact on patient care, with a strong focus on supporting healthcare professionals, and students/ trainees, to enable evidence-based decision making and effective care. Operational management of the Library Services team, resources and budgets is combined with health librarian work such as providing searches and training. Learning and Development provide a large number of training, education programmes and apprenticeships at all levels and Library Services are key to successful delivery of these, along with other educational programmes delivered by the wider Trust or partners.
As part of the senior leadership team in Learning & Development, there will be opportunities for strategic development as we continue to improve our knowledge development work. This will include linking with clinical, research and corporate leads to develop, implement and evaluate a strategy for the Library Service that meets local needs and national outcomes frameworks.
This post is most suitable for librarians with experience of working in an NHS, academic or workplace library.
Main duties of the job
·Playing a major role in leading and developing the Knowledge and Library Service to meet the Trust's objectives, developing and promoting the service and ensuring the smooth day to day running of the library service.
·Responsible for all library related training across trust sites, designing, promoting, delivering and evaluating training, particularly in relation to literature searching and critical appraisal skills
·Responsible for managing the knowledge and library service budget and effectively managing resources to meet the needs of the Trust.
·Responsible for providing an annual report of activity and business plan for library services which aligns to national and local Trust strategic priorities and agendas.
·Responsible for preparing the library strategy aligned to the Knowledge for Healthcare strategy.
·Responsible for regularly reviewing the service improvement plan and implementing changes accordingly; engaging with and contributing to the NHS England Quality and Improvement outcomes framework.
·Accountable to the Head of Learning and Development

Base TBC. There is a mix of working in the library sites, Learning & Development department, other team bases and working from home when you don’t need to be on site.
The post is 30 hours per week. The Trust supports flexible working and for this post any pattern within 8am-6pm, Monday- Friday would be considered.

Essential criteria
- Qualification in LIS: degree or equivalent.
- Masters level qualification, or equivalent.
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- High level of skills and specialist knowledge for managing and developing library services
- Advanced knowledge of principles of evidence-based health practice and clinical appraisal techniques.
Experience
Essential criteria
- Substantial relevant experience in a professional librarian role.
- Library experience in the NHS or Academic LKS Sector.
