Engage Education are currently recruiting for a SEND Teaching Assistant to join an outstanding specialist college supporting students with a wide range of special educational needs and disabilities, including ASD and complex needs. Learners follow a personalised curriculum designed to promote both their academic progress and personal development. The college places a strong emphasis on building students’ independence, helping them develop the skills they need to become confident and active members of the community.
As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with lecturers and the wider support team to provide high-quality support to learners, enabling them to engage fully in their education and achieve their individual goals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support learners in the classroom and in small group or one-to-one settings, adapting support to meet individual needs.
- Assist the lecturer in the delivery of teaching and learning activities within the assigned curriculum area.
- Help organise learning experiences in a clear and structured way that supports each student’s development.
- Support assessment, target setting, recording, and reporting by providing feedback on learner progress.
- Promote positive behaviour, independence, and engagement in learning.
- Work collaboratively with teaching staff, support teams, and external professionals as required.
- Take part in relevant staff development and training to maintain and enhance professional skills.
Key Requirements:
- Experience of working with learners with SEND, particularly ASD and/or complex needs (desirable).
- Ability to support assessment, monitoring, and recording of learner progress.
- Strong communication skills to work effectively with students, carers, and professionals.
- A positive and inclusive approach, with a firm belief that learners with SEND can make meaningful progress.
