Who we are
Brockenhurst College , known locally as Brock, is a welcoming and inclusive further education college based in the heart of the New Forest. The main College campus is situated within the village of Brockenhurst, with a further four satellite sites in New Milton, Marchwood, Lymington and Southampton, where more specialist aspects of provision are delivered.
At Brock, we place learners at the heart of everything we do and have a strong reputation for delivering excellence in teaching and learning, as well as effective all‑round student support. All students are supported in strengthening and developing both their academic and personal skills, learning to take responsibility for their own development, to support positive onward progression from the College.
The College holds Tertiary College status and, as such, provides a broad range of education and training opportunities. Our provision spans 16‑19 programmes, apprenticeships, adult learning and higher education. We also host over 100 international students each year, who come from over 20 different countries globally to study with us.
Each year, more than 3,000 young people study on our 16‑19 programmes, over 5,000 adults engage in learning with us, and more than 100 students take part in apprenticeship or higher education courses. This breadth of provision reflects the long‑standing inclusive nature of the College, offering qualifications that meet the needs, interests and ambitions of our community as well as those of local, regional and national employers.
Outcomes across all areas of provision are strong. This enables our students to progress to meaningful next steps equipped with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed. Support for students at the College is excellent, with all students able to access a wide range of academic, pastoral and wider learning opportunities outside of the classroom. This includes pastoral support, access to academic workshops, work experience, our careers service, well‑being teams and a comprehensive enrichment programme.
As a college, we have a significant responsibility to deliver the skills required to support the local and regional economy and, as such, are involved as delivery partners, alongside other colleges, in the Institute of Technology agenda as well as the delivery of the Local Skills Improvement Plan and New Forest Skills Action Plan. These agendas continue to be strategic drivers in the development of the College curriculum.
About
the role
The Governing Body of Brockenhurst College is made up of a strong group of ambitious individuals, committed to the continual improvement and progression of the College and student outcomes.
As a collective group, our Board is responsible for the quality of service the College offers to students and the local community, as well as for approving and monitoring the College’s annual budget. Our committed and experienced Board is comprised of people who bring a range of career backgrounds and specialist industry and sector knowledge.
We seek new Governors to become members of both the Board and at least one other committee, depending on their specialist knowledge and interests. In addition to attending scheduled meetings throughout the year, we encourage Governors to experience the College by linking them with senior leaders and different departments, providing opportunities for them to visit the campuses and meet and speak with students, apprentices and staff.
All Governors are expected to uphold the 7 Principles of Public Life, which are more commonly known as the ‘Nolan Principles.’
- Selflessness:
Holders of public office should act solely in terms of the public interest. - Integrity:
Holders of public office must avoid placing themselves under any obligation to people or organisations that might try inappropriately to influence them in their work. They should not act or make decisions in order to gain financial or other material benefits for themselves, their family, or their friends. They must declare and…
