Job Overview
As an Employment Coach, you will support individuals to progress into their chosen career paths by providing advice, support and guidance. You will use assessments and implement tailored support plans that are smart and tailored to each individual's needs.
Key Responsibilities- Work with participants face‑to‑face, coaching and supporting their journey to employment by delivering employability sessions, interview skills advice, and job‑search methods. Build confidence after periods of unemployment and remove barriers to enable them to achieve monthly employment targets.
- Conduct diagnostic screening, assessments and skills analyses to help participants consider all available employment options.
- Maintain knowledge of the local labour market, training opportunities and support agencies. Build relationships with local employers to understand their expectations and encourage interviews.
- Help clients clarify their key skills, aspirations, and goals through a Vocational Profile and produce an Action Plan that supports job search, CV production, application forms, interview techniques, and career development.
- Assess clients’ support needs related to work, including benefits, welfare advice, or mental health disclosures, and provide appropriate support and guidance.
- Attend weekly clinical team meetings as an embedded IPS practitioner.
- Source job opportunities for clients through tailored job searches and regular contact with local employers, exploring both hidden and advertised roles.
- Provide education and support to employers, including negotiating adjustments, return‑to‑work strategies, and ongoing contact to ensure job retention.
- Collaborate with clinical teams to generate referrals and create partnerships that promote employment as a positive recovery intervention.
- After employment is secured, continue to deliver quality service through regular visits, monitoring, and in‑work support to sustain employment.
- Negotiate job opportunities that align with each client’s strengths, needs, abilities, and preferences by building local employer relationships.
- Challenge inequalities and discrimination experienced by clients, and promote a learning process for the organisation.
- Work with employers to reduce workplace barriers, including job carving for small slices of duties.
Skills, Knowledge and Experience
- Experience in one‑to‑one support or coaching, positively influencing professional or personal development.
- Experience in the employment and skills sector, delivering targets, quality standards, and compliance measures.
- Use of motivational and action‑planning techniques to guide participants toward sustainable work.
- Empathy and confidence to engage and challenge a diverse range of clients.
- Ability to manage complex cases concurrently while meeting targets.
- Organised time‑management to achieve monthly targets.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire others.
- Influencing approach to engage others with your ideas.
- Good understanding of the local and regional labour market.
- Practical knowledge of recruitment and selection processes.
- Comfort with local travel and digital communication tools (phone, video, email).
- Strong administrative and IT skills, including MS Office.
