. The School of Optometry & Ophthalmology is seeking a highly qualified optometrist to deliver clinical practice, teaching, and research at both grade 7 and grade 8 levels.
Responsibilities
- Lead and develop the glaucoma clinical and clinical-grade teaching for the School.
- Contribute to the design, implementation and evaluation of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programmes at the early and post-residency levels.
- Contribute independently to the development of modules, courses and related material as part of the module team.
- Evaluate programmes and research to assess and enhance teaching quality and learning outcomes.
- Provide supervision and academic support to students, including clinical supervision for glaucoma clinics and hands‑on teaching sessions.
- Develop and deliver clinical grade teaching and student assessment at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
- Participate in curriculum development, including iterative revisions in response to student and stakeholder feedback.
- Promote teaching excellence through formative and summative assessment, along with a culture of continuous improvement.
- Participate in the school’s clinics, providing patient care and collaborating with staff, consultants, patients, and the wider health community.
- Contribute to the School’s strategic goals, including national HR strategy for the School.
Qualifications and Experience
- Registered with the General Optical Council (GOC) and professional experience in optometry practice.
- PhD/DPhil in a relevant field of Vision Sciences or clinical experience in the field.
- Advanced Certificate or Diploma in Glaucoma, or comparable training.
- Postgraduate teaching qualification in Higher Education or equivalent teaching experience.
- Experience in conducting high-level research, including grant proposals, publications and conference presentations.
- Strong communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills.
Salary
£51,753 – £56,535 per year, pro‑rata (Grade
7) or £61,759 – £67,468 per year, pro‑rata (Grade
8). Eligible for level‑up progression after successful maintenance of clinical practice level, and the delivery of an outstanding teaching portfolio and active research contribution.
Average performance rating: 3.13.
