As a valued part of our community, we are dedicated to helping individuals gain the skills, knowledge and confidence to realise their full potential.
We are part Education Training Collective (Etc.), which is of a group of colleges and training providers in the Tees Valley; Stockton Riverside College, Redcar and Cleveland College, Bede Sixth Form College, NETA Training and Innersummit. Our staff are skilled, high performing and committed to our learners and to the Group’s vision, ‘ONE Etc. – Fuelling ambition and driving success in a resurgent Teesside and beyond’. Join us in shaping the future- we are looking for individuals who are ready to inspire, achieve and share our commitment to delivering outstanding education.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Lecturer in Counselling to join our Access team reporting to our Curriculum Manager in Health, Early Years, Access and Distance Learning. Our department is committed to delivering high-quality education and training to a diverse range of learners, from school leavers to adult returners, many of whom go on to make meaningful contributions within the health, social care, and counselling professions. We support our students through inclusive teaching, personalised learning approaches, and a strong focus on professional and personal development.
As a Lecturer in Counselling with Redcar and Cleveland College you will be responsible for planning and delivering high-quality, inclusive teaching in the Access to counselling programme. You will support and guide learners through their academic and personal development, contribute to curriculum design, and ensure all course materials meet current professional standards. The role involves engaging in quality assurance processes, maintaining strong industry links, and upholding ethical and safeguarding standards. You will collaborate closely with colleagues, participate in continuous professional development, and play an active role in promoting excellence within the department.
The ideal candidate will be a reflective and compassionate practitioner with strong interpersonal and communication skills, able to inspire and motivate learners from diverse backgrounds. You will demonstrate professionalism, emotional intelligence, and a commitment to ethical practice, along with excellent organisational and time management abilities. A collaborative approach, adaptability, and a passion for lifelong learning are essential, as is the ability to contribute positively to a supportive team culture and the continuous improvement of teaching and learning.
Applicants should hold a recognised qualification in counselling at Level 5 or above (e.g. Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling), alongside current membership of a professional body such as the BACP or NCS. A teaching qualification (such as a PGCE, CertEd or Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training) is desirable, though not essential, as support can be provided for those willing to work towards it.
Candidates should have recent and relevant experience of counselling practice, ideally within a therapeutic or educational setting, and a sound understanding of professional and ethical frameworks. Experience of teaching, training, or supporting adult learners is advantageous. Ongoing professional development opportunities and structured mentoring will be available to support the successful candidate in both their teaching and counselling practice.
