The School of Health and Life Sciences is now seeking to appoint to the post of Lecturer Teaching Scholarship and Professional Practice (TSPP) in Optometry to contribute to teaching, research, knowledge exchange, enterprise and knowledge exchange in the Department of Allied Health Professions in the School of Health & Life Sciences.
Role and responsibilities
The standard TSPP academic role at the University includes a combination of teaching, scholarly activity, professional practice, knowledge exchange, business engagement and associated administrative activities. You will be involved in uni professional (Optometry) and some multi professional (AHP) activity across the department. While all functions will combine these areas of work, the relative weight of each will vary between and over time for each role holder.
Qualifications and experience
- The postholder must have a degree relevant to teaching Optometry. It is desirable that they hold an Optometry qualification and are on the professional GOC register and have experience of teaching and assessing skills in practice.
- You must hold both a first degree and Masters in relevant discipline / equivalent professional qualification or significant practical work experience in a related discipline.
- You will utilise your knowledge to contribute to teaching, knowledge exchange, enterprise, and business engagement.
- Applicants must hold or be willing to achieve a relevant Teaching Qualification normally within two years of employment i.e PGCHE / Higher Education Academy (Associate Fellow / Senior Fellow) accreditation.
- Membership of a relevant professional body / Registered professional in the discipline / equivalent level of professional practice is desirable.

The position we are filling is exempt from the provisions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and a satisfactory DBS disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service is required as part of our clearance procedures.Please be advised that due to the minimum salary thresholds imposed by the UKVI, this post may qualify for University sponsorship under the Skilled Worker visa route.This post is available as an Academic Teaching, Scholarship and Professional Practice (TSPP) contract designed to enable staff to focus their work on industry engagement alongside teaching.
