About
Whilst working at the Park College (an SEN college for young adults with an autism diagnosis), I started my role as a Teaching Assistant. My role was mainly classroom-based, supporting a class with their learning goals as well as vocational experience in the onsite café.
I then undertook Job Coaching training and began to take students to individual work experience placements. In this role, I supported students to evolve their individual employment skills and worked with them in college to identify their skills, passions, and objectives. I built a strong rapport with my students, taking them to placements, logging their progress, ensuring safeguarding, and working with staff to create behaviour support plans and enhance independence.
In this role, I was responsible for outreach and secured placements as well as paid work for students, including speciality coffee shops such as The Coal Rooms and Peckham Plex cinema.
Subsequently, I worked at SPA School Camberwell as the Office Manager. This role involved continuous support for teachers, SLT, and families of students, as well as visiting practitioners and prospective students. In this role, I was responsible for ensuring the smooth running of operations, such as school bus pick-ups, storage and updating of medication, ordering supplies and uniform, parents’ evenings and events, and updating calendars for SLT and the Executive Head.
My desk was located at the front desk with the administrative assistant; we were responsible for ensuring all students had a smooth arrival and departure from the school, as well as welcoming and supporting callers and visitors.
