About
I am writing to express my interest in the position of Senior Lecturer in Computer Science at the University of Chester. With a passion for software engineering, having a solid foundation in research and teaching, I am excited about this opportunity to contribute to the well-being of my community. With over a decade of combined experience in the software industry and academia, I have come to realize that an effective teacher must not only demonstrate mastery of the subject but also embrace the responsibility of shaping society.
My journey began with enrollment in BS Software Engineering degree program from International Islamic University Islamabad Pakistan, leading to MS Software Engineering and PhD Software Engineering from the same University. Through the years, I not only gained professional knowledge but also got experience of working and dealing with different people, which I think is quite significant for career development. I have been associated with ACM since 2023 as professional member; ACSE as individual member; and Ai as associate member. I am also a recipient of Global Talent Visa endorsed by the Royal Academy of Engineering UK.
I have published several journal articles in reputable computing journals and participated in both local and international conferences. I am also shortlisted for the National CERT’s Research Fellowship Program (Government of Pakistan), a recognition of my research capacity in advancing cybersecurity and resilience. In addition, I have served as a reviewer, program committee member, and technical program committee member for various journals and conferences. In 2025, I chaired a session at the 3rd International Conference on Energy, Power, Environment, Control and Computing (ICEPECC 2025, Pakistan) and co-organized a workshop on Natural Language Processing for Software Architecture at the 22nd IEEE International Conference on Software Architecture (ICSA 2025, Denmark). Currently, I am serving the top-ranked IEEE/ACM International Conference on Software Engineering (ICSE 2026) as a Program Committee Member.
Over the period, I have taught core courses of software engineering including foundation course, software requirements engineering, software design and architecture, software project management, software quality assurance, software testing, global software development, professional practices in software engineering, etc. I have mentored and supervised several students in final year projects. In 2023 my student project won the Prime Minister Youth Innovation Award 2023 and awarded with £1333.4 from the worthy Prime Minister of Pakistan.
I would also like to share that in 2019, I was selected for the US State funded program 'International Visitors Leadership Program 2019' under the theme of 'Promoting STEM/STEAM Education in girls'. Besides, I have served as a co-director of Women in Big Data (Pakistan), where we worked to uplift women and girls who are interested in learning data science, big data, and software engineering.
My teaching philosophy is quite simple yet effective ‘collaborative and inclusive environment for all’ regardless of any biases. I aim to empower my students to become decision makers and critical thinkers equipped with clarity of concepts and practical skills that extend beyond the classroom. My methodology involves integrating real-world examples and productive discussions where I engage my students and cultivate the passion for software engineering. Through mentorship and innovative pedagogical approaches, I aspire to inspire a lifelong passion for learning and academic exploration. Additionally, I encourage my students to become lifelong learners and practice professional ethics in the field.
I am drawn towards University of Chester due to its reputation for excellence in education and research. My qualifications and passion make me a suitable candidate for this position. I am eager to contribute towards the department’s mission alongside esteemed colleagues to advancing my knowledge in the field of software engineering. I believe I can contribute towards department’s research and add another perspective to it i.e., diversity.
Thank you for considering my application.
Sincerely,
Dr. Hafsa Shareef Dar
