About
I am a final year PhD student (fully funded) in Computer Science at the University of Surrey (Completion - March, 2026). My doctoral work focuses on the Topic Reference-less evaluation of Machine Translation for low-resourced languages , which has a combination of NLP (Natural Language Processing) and Machine Learning (ML), where I propose transformer-based approaches and frameworks to improve the efficiency. I have also completed an MPhil in Computational Mathematics at the University of Moratuwa. Also, I completed my undergraduate degree in BSc (Hons) in Information Technology with a specialisation in Software Engineering, providing a strong foundation in programming and applied methods. In terms of teaching qualifications, I have completed the PG Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education (Associate Fellowship pathway) in the UK and previously completed a Teaching Methodology in Higher Education certification in Sri Lanka. I have over 6 years of academic teaching experience across a range of computing domains. As a Lecturer, I have delivered lectures, tutorials, and laboratory sessions; prepared course materials; marked examinations and assignments; supervised undergraduate student projects; and conducted student presentations and viva assessments. Alongside teaching, my research outputs span many areas of AI: Machine learning, NLP, and data-driven modelling with publications in EMNLP, COLM, MT Summit, Conference on Machine Translation (WMT) and other indexed venues. I also contribute to the research community through conferences, workshops and shared-task organisation, reviewing conference and journal articles, and have collaborated with researchers from different universities. I have secured competitive research funding, including a fully funded PhD studentship at the University of Surrey, the JASSO (Japan Student Services Organization) Scholarship as an international research exchange student during my MPhil. Also, I have obtained an annual student grant from the European Association for Machine Translation(EAMT) in 2024 to fund part of my PhD project. I have also contributed to industry-linked workshops, academic conferences, and university events that support enterprise engagement and knowledge exchange. I am currently looking for a jobrole as a Lecturer/ Post Doctoral Fellow. Also i am open to any other role which would suit according to my profile.
