Dear Sir/Madam, This letter is to accompany my application for the part-time hourly paid Lecturers-in-Law roles currently available at Leeds Beckett University over a range of topics. My specific area of expertise is in Civil Litigation, although I do have significant experience of drafting, interviewing and legal writing. I am a vastly experienced Civil Litigator with over 24 years post-qualification experience dealing with a range of pre- and post-litigation work across a variety of regimes and protocols including complex work on high-value claims. I am familiar with all aspects of pre- and post-litigation work from initial instruction and discussions with the client, through to drafting of statements, court documents, instructions/briefs to counsel and attendance at JSMs, conferences with counsel, preparation for trial, attendance at trial and so on. Part of my current role is as a technical referral point and trainer working at a general insurance company (previously for a law firm working in-house at the insurer). I have attained a wealth of knowledge drafting and delivering training and educational material to a wide range of litigators and claims handlers on a number of topics in my role. That role involves digesting new legislation, protocols and case law, understanding how they are likely to affect the company s processes and procedures and coming up with new and amended processes and procedures to effectively deal with those changes. I am then required to train pre-litigation handlers and litigators to use those processes to achieve optimum results for the business. My last rating from my employer was a Sets a New Standard rating, which is the highest rating available, given to just the top 5% of employees. The award was given In large part due to work on a range of processes created and delivered relating to RTA SCP Litigation under Part 27B, and 3 pre-litigation processes also designed to deal with a number of significant issues arising out of the new RTA SCP protocol. I have an excellent legal academic grounding having achieved the highest possible mark in the Legal Practice Course Pass with Distinction and a Pass with Merit for the CPE. My role as a technical referral point and trainer has given me invaluable experience of understanding complex legislation and information, digesting that and explaining it in a classroom environment to less experienced students. That experience and knowledge, coupled with my work experience gathered over many years, my strong legal academic background and my acknowledged high working standards, I believe make me an ideal candidate to take on this role. I would like to be considered for a role as a Civil Litigation lecturer. Yours sincerely, Michael Burnett
