About
I currently work as a supply teacher in Secondary school science departments throughout Denbighshire and Flintshire. I have also worked as a teaching assistant on the behavioural teams of Aberconwy School where I was employed in the specialist autism and ADHD education unit, and also Rhyl high school where there has been a great deal of behavioural issues of disengagement from learning, truancy, inappropriate behaviour in the classroom, throughout years 7 to 11. My role was in deescalation of crisis situations utilising negotiation, intervention strategies, listening, coaching and motivation of students in order to facilitate a return to effective learning, and positive outcomes. Drawing from my background, of a degree in psychology, and an introduction to counselling, the soft skills that I utilise on a daily basis are approaching situations with positive non-judgemental and awareness of behaviour being exhibited in the moment, and the factors and variables that may be leading up to that may prove a barrier to a student engaging fully in learning. My role as a supply teacher is where I am placed at short notice into schools and science departments throughout North Wales, where I am replacing staff who may be away on training. I am responsible for the accurate taking of a register for each class and ensuring that set work is provided to each student in the class and that they understand the requirements and outcomes of the lesson. I also respond to enquiries and clarify questions for each student my role is also in the management of behaviour and ensuring that students engage with learning with the minimum of disruption. As a person I have been described as calming and positive, my background is in education, however I have also served in the Royal Air Force where my training and experience enables me to be firm but fair and to be calm in situations of acute stress. In the past during my employment with MIND as a mental health recovery group facilitator in Conwy and Denbighshire I have experience working holistically with young people in the community who are not in education or employment, where I have conducted classes and workshops to provide them with resilience, confidence and communication building skills, to empower them in applications for job interviews further education and returning to employment. As part of my remit I have liased with 3rd sector support agencies to establish on going support and continuity of care for service users. I have documented my actions and collated data using platforms such as Google Drive and Google Docs, I am familiar with safeguarding and have utilised the safeguarding system on a number of occasions when working with young people. I understand and manage my own resilience, by balanced objectivity, approaching work with a professional attitude as an individual and as part of a team.
