Skills
Through my work across mentoring, community development, and health and social care, I ve developed a range of skills that transfer naturally into educational settings. These include strong communication and interpersonal abilities, with a genuine capacity to build trust and motivate learners from diverse backgrounds. I m experienced in planning, delivering, and evaluating training programmes, tailoring content to meet individual needs and learning styles. My background in mentoring has strengthened my ability to identify barriers to learning and provide practical, person-centred support to help people reach their goals. Organisation and coordination have also been key throughout my roles - from managing caseloads and tracking progress to developing personal learning plans and collaborating with other professionals. I m confident using digital learning platforms and educational technology to enhance engagement and monitor achievement. Overall, my approach is grounded in empathy, structure, and a belief that education works best when it s accessible, flexible, and genuinely empowering.
About
Across a range of community and educational settings, I ve worked to support people s personal, social, and professional development - often those facing barriers to education or employment. My experience spans tutoring, mentoring, programme coordination, and lecturing, with a consistent focus on inclusion, wellbeing, and empowerment. At the Derry Youth and Community Workshop, I combine mentoring with teaching, helping participants build confidence, develop new skills, and move towards meaningful employment. Earlier roles with organisations such as Bryson Care, Community Family Support Programme, and The Women s Centre strengthened my understanding of the complex social and personal challenges people face - and the importance of holistic, person-centred support. My time as a Lecturer at North West Regional College provided a strong foundation in curriculum delivery, learner assessment, and the use of learning technology. Since then, I ve built on that by integrating community-based approaches, focusing not just on qualifications but on growth, wellbeing, and long-term resilience.
