Skills
My academic background in both Ukraine and the United Kingdom has equipped me with the capacity to conduct research from a broad, cross-jurisdictional perspective. This experience has fostered agile, proactive thinking and the ability to disseminate research findings effectively in high-level academic and policy forums. Additionally, my experience as a peer reviewer for the International Journal of Law in Context has further refined academic writing and critical engagement with scholarly work. While delivering tutorials at UCL, I adhered to the agenda and core guidance established by the module convenors. However, I was also granted the autonomy to design and conduct the sessions in a manner I deemed most effective and pedagogically sound. In exercising this flexibility, I integrated adaptive quizzes and interactive platforms, such as Kahoot, to support the reinforcement and retention of key concepts and rules through active learning. I also incorporated video materials featuring recent landmark decisions by the UK Supreme Court into the tutorial portfolios. I have been actively engaged in designing and delivering courses as part of my independent professional development initiative (Speak Legal) aimed at supporting fully qualified Ukrainian lawyers in their integration into the international trade and legal environment. The objective of this project is to enhance lawyers` capacity to provide legal advice to international businesses in cross-border contexts. As part of this endeavour, I developed and launched a course on English Contract Law, structured around the analysis of foundational and contemporary judicial decisions, including recent high-profile cases adjudicated in English courts. Additionally, I have led a series of Speaking Club sessions that involve viewing video case summaries across various legal domains, followed by structured discussions of the Court s reasoning. These sessions encouraged participants to reflect on the comparative dimensions of common law and civil law traditions, fostering deeper analytical insight and cross-jurisdictional awareness. During my teaching at UCL, I have gained experience supporting students who required reasonable adjustments due to challenges such as difficulties with concentration, managing stress during high-pressure periods (e.g., assignment deadlines), and anxiety triggered by activities like public speaking in class. When working with SORA students, it is essential to promote accessibility and encourage active engagement with the course curriculum. At the same time, it is equally important to ensure that all students are afforded equal opportunities and that the academic standards and overall quality of the educational experience are upheld. With extensive work in legal practice and diplomatic protocol acquired through my role as an Advocate and my service as Vice-Honorary Consul of the Republic of Kenya in Ukraine I have developed and consistently demonstrated advanced interpersonal, communication, and organisational skills. These competencies have been effectively applied in both leadership and collaborative contexts, contributing to the successful and timely achievement of strategic objectives and the efficient execution of responsibilities. Given the breadth and depth of my expertise, alongside the advanced skills and competencies I have developed, I am confident in my suitability for the role of both Lecturer and Researcher within the academia.
About
Drawing on my teaching experience, doctoral and postdoctoral research across a broad spectrum of topics both within specific jurisdictions and from a comparative legal perspective I am well-prepared and enthusiastic to contribute both to the research agenda and to deliver effective contemporary teaching in academia. My teaching experience at University College London encompassed mainly Contract Law taught to LLB students. The Laws.Connection module (Introduction course for a 1-year students) included some topics on Trust, Property and Inheritance Law. I am enthusiastic about continuing to teach these subjects and would also be pleased to contribute to other core LLB modules, such as English Legal System, Tort Law, Land Law, Criminal Law where needed. From the research perspective, I have been focusing for the last three years on the Governance of Genetic Data in the International context, and lately my research focus was on Artificial Intelligence regulation within the grant funded by the Nuffield Foundation via the British Academy and Council for At-Risk Academics. Concurrently, I have maintained a long-standing scholarly interest in the convergence of commercial law within Anglo-Saxon and Roman legal traditions a subject I previously investigated in Ukraine. I am eager to continue the research within the outlined topics, while also sharing my knowledge through teaching in academia.
