About
Teaching Experiences I have been teaching for over 20 and have experience of teaching in FE, HE and within a secondary school setting. I am extremely committed, passionate and flexible in the craft I consider my profession. I have taught A-level law, A-level Business and BTEC, GCSE Business Studies as well as these subjects at degree level including HNC and HND. Teaching at number of institutions has allowed me to teach a diverse range of learners with varying backgrounds and abilities. These experiences have developed strong interpersonal skills but also allowed me to develop a range of resources and approaches to teaching and learners to meet the needs of individual learners. I have also benefited from working with various colleagues at institutions as I have learned and taken onboard shared good practices I have experienced. Good practice in not just the delivery of courses but class management, attendance, behaviour and pastoral care. Teaching at number of institutions has aided my subject knowledge and understanding of internal and external course requirements. In my previous FE role as BTEC Business Lecturer, I was the course manager with the responsibility of providing academic tutorial support to learners across the course, monitoring attendance, achievement, retention and success and signposting learners when appropriate whether to college welfare services or other services across the college. This included co-ordinating and ensuring internal and external qualification requirements of awarding bodies is met as a departmental team. In my last FE role, my duties and responsibilities included palling, monitoring and delivery if level 2 and level 3 Business Studies with a specialism in the mandatory examination units in both level 2 and Level 3 and held the majority responsibility for these units including supporting learners who required resitting examination in mandatory units to ensure learner achievement across the units and course. I through my experiences in teaching and own education have developed skills and practices as an examination and assignments specialist. In my last role in FE. my duties and responsibilities included, planning and delivery of teaching and learning, marking and grading assignments, lead internal verification across all units as well as supporting and mentoring individuals new to the profession. I also lead the department and learners through the UCAS process which included providing presentation and guidance on UCAS Statement writing appropriate for the courses for which the learner applied and coordinating and writing references for the process I am a big advocate in the use of technology in teaching and learning and especially the importance of preparation and planning for teaching and learning. As such I incorporate lesson planning, academic monitoring and weekly and half-termly assessment schedules through formative methods and have an adaptive approach to delivery through use of varied resources and assessments to meet the needs of learners and to ensure learner engagement in the teaching and learning process. I value the importance of continuing monitoring of not such learner achievement in assignments but also learner attendance, retention and other factors that may undermine a learner achieving. I believe in early and continuous teacher lead monitoring of learner progress and intervention through intervention plans and SMART target setting, to not only ensure learner achievement but play my role in ensuring my department meets Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). As within my last role in FE and within all the roles I have held, I believe in providing additional support to the learners through additional assignment and examination workshops, additional revision sessions and through teaching and learning materials during free periods, lunchtimes and after timetable teaching. I have genuinely believe with BTECs no learner ought to fail to achieve in that qualification and with examination courses such as A-level Law and Business Studies, the risk of a learner not achieving can be and ought to be minimised through planning, ongoing monitoring and intervention and appropriate strategies to meet the need of learners. I believe creating an environment for learning in the classroom and this is reflected in my class behaviour management and the use of appropriate institution processes in creating an environment for learning. I believe in continuing formative assessments individual and group. through methods such as verbal questioning and written, varied learning checks through last session recap assessments, quizzes, and tests (teacher and learner led) using my own materials and exam board materials especially previous summative assessment such as examination papers and assignments. I take a test teach test approach in preparing learning for summative assessment ensuring differentiation through teaching and assessment resources and materials. It is important to treat each learner and take the view know your learner and use documents such as group profiles and individual learning plans to facilitate the teaching and learning process. I am comfortable using online systems such as ProMonitor and Mark book along with VLEs such as Moodle and Blackboard. I incorporate English and Maths, along with E&D in my delivery as well as my teaching resources and assessments and even formative assessments. I consider myself a reflective practitioner and truly believe in the teaching profession you never stop learning, improving resources and methods and do value the importance and benefits of CPD. In my career, at Tresham college I developed and lead the Honours Programme and co-ordinated, supervised and internally verified the EPQ for the A-level and BTEC Business Department along with the UCAS process. Whilst at Telford College, I also lead the EPQ programme and had responsibility for developing, co-ordinating and managing the introduction of the VLE platform, Moodle. In this role, alongside my teaching and learning of A-level law and BTEC Business I had responsibility for staff training and introduced incentives to improve staff engagement in the use the VLE. I have successfully facilitated learners to achieve full marks in A-level law as well as in BTEC with numerous learners each academic year at Tresham College achieving Distinction grades in all their Units on BTEC level 3. I have facilitated learners to secure apprenticeship at KPMG and offers at Russell Groups Universities as well as on highly competitive courses. I am comfortable working independently and as a team, not within just my own department but wider college/institution environment and departments to ensure safeguarding and learner achievement. I participate in opening evenings, parents evening and wider college life and will always strive to ensure my department is one of the exemplary departments within the institution. As an extremely competent and experienced educator, I am a true professional and have a great passion for working with young people from diverse backgrounds, abilities and circumstances. It because of learners I am committed to the teaching profession.
