About
Summary
I am a hard-working individual with interests in sport, health, and the human body, with previous experience in a physiotherapy setting and in coaching, specifically as a strength coach. I am looking to expand to a larger gym with more client potential and to grow my business online. I believe in walking the walk and follow an active and healthy lifestyle focusing on strength. Allowing my self to follow this passion in an athletic field let’s me provide the best service for my clients and share all the knowledge I am actively acquiring.
Work History
• Personal Trainer and Fitness Instructor, Carey’s Manor (June 2024 – ongoing)
This role includes the following. Personal training and coaching to a variety of hotel clients or spa members. Standard gym roles, such as opening and closing the gym, cleaning and maintenance. Undertaking exercise classes including spinning, aqua fit, HIIT, circuits, and flexibility-based classes. Pool operations and opening and closing the spa. Finally, working across multiple teams within the hotel.
• Personal Trainer, Dual Fitness Training (February 2023 – May 2024)
Working as a personal trainer in a semi-private training facility. The role consists of taking multiple members through their individual programmes at once. This means teaching them exercises, watching their form, encouraging them, giving them feedback, adapting programmes and techniques to people based on their experience and injuries and/or ailments. My role also involves training and teaching new staff members and managing client wants and needs. Other roles include, gym sweeps, equipment loading and unloading, opening and closing the gym are part of the role, as well as, communicating with the physiotherapist and the gym owner to tailor a better client experience. I also have one-to-one work in this gym after group personal training hours have completed. This can be very fast paced when there are large numbers of clients in the gym, requiring a lot quick thinking, fast actions, and recalling lots of information in a small amount of time. Depending on the number of clients in the gym part of the role can be making many individuals feel as if they are having a one-to-one personal training experience.
• Fitness Instructor and Personal Trainer, Romsey Rapids Sports Complex (March 2023 – September 2023)
This was a zero-hour contract that involved: Fitness instructing work including gym introductions, maintenance, opening and closing the gym, assisting members, programme reviews, exercise instruction, and leading classes. In addition, the opportunity to recruit clients and personally train them was offered here. Personal training experience here allowed me to start figuring out how to sell my own business to clients and offered similar experience to the coaching roles listed above, but it allowed more one-to-one work.
• Self-Employed Personal Trainer and Online Coach (2022 – ongoing)
I have worked with a variety of clients whose goals have varied from being able to squat 200kgs to being able to run 10km to losing 20kgs body fat. Currently looking at expanding to the online space. I feel confident in my coaching ability, of course you can always learn more. My current focus is sales, marketing and improving my ability to communicate clearly.
• Physiotherapy degree placement experience (2021 – 2023)
Physiotherapy Placements spread over 24 weeks in addition to academic teaching. Placements included musculoskeletal outpatient, subacute neurological ward, first-contact-practitioner, inpatient subacute ward.
I worked with a range of clients from ages 16 – 103. Their needs varied from musculoskeletal problems that could be managed in the community, such as long-term recovery for a lumbar spine fracture, to those with neurological difficulties, for example hemineglect from a stroke, or balance issues from a damaged cerebellum after having a tumour removed, where mobilisation and maximising quality of life were key. I devised exercise programmes for clients and worked with them in the gym, implementing fitness programmes and helping them work towards their fitness and rehabilitation goals. All my work has been and remains client centred. I have also had experience in organisational issues, research, leadership and managing online resources.
From this degree I have learnt in-depth human anatomy, about a variety of medical and physical conditions, from musculoskeletal issues to potentially terminal diseases, how to programme exercises creatively for those struggling with more conventional methods, and how to engage with a variety of people with varying levels of motivation.
